Apparently, the GOP is already out accusing Democrats of stealing an election in which the Democrat is winning. From an NRCC email:
I just stepped out of a political meeting...
Don’t let the Democrats steal this election. Less than 80 ballots separate Republican Jim Tedisco and his Democrat opponent. We cannot afford to allow the Democrats to steal this election.
We need your support to ensure we can overcome the Democrats’ legal maneuvers.
Democrats have almost succeeded in stealing the election in Minnesota and seating Al Franken. We cannot allow them to manipulate electoral results to seat another tax-troubled liberal.
We need your support to make sure the will of the residents of New York’s 20th district prevails in the final outcome.
Please contribute today and together we can ensure a fair and accurate count of the remaining ballots.
Thank you.
Sincerely,
Guy Harrison, Executive Director
Heck, why even bother counting the votes? Who cares who got the most votes? We all know that either
- The Republican won, or
- The Democrats cheated!
In fact, Jim Tedisco's campaign has already made it clear he doesn't care who got the most votes. Even before the election ended, they were trying to overturn the results.
Republican Jim Tedisco may be running for the House in a district where Republicans outnumber Democratic voters by some 70,000, but with the polls closing in a matter of hours, Tedisco’s campaign is prepping for a loss.
An electoral loss, anyway.
The Dutchess County Clerk’s Office has confirmed to FDL that Tedisco’s people have filed an ex parte motion in order, the effect of which would be to investigate and overturn today’s election results, should the outcome not be to Republicans’ liking.
The Republican Party's hatred of democracy is really something to behold. We'd thought Norm Coleman's campaign was the gold standard for pathetic sore-loserdom, but even Clayface Coleman didn't try to overturn the election results before the election was even over.
Even Coleman postponed his litigation until after the ballots had actually been counted.
Coleman's contempt for the democratic process, unfortunately, has been eclipsed by one of his fellow Republicans.
The result of the initial challenge was to impound all absentee ballots until everything is received on April 13. So we're not going to know a thing until then...but both sides are lawyering up.
Naturally, we're the ones who will have to fight tooth and nail for a fair count.
