There have been many parodies of the ridiculous "Gathering Storm" ad from Maggie Gallagher and her merry band of bigots.
However, there have also been serious responses, first to the LIES that the NoM ad promulgates, and second, to the broader question of what gay marriage is really about.
Two examples over the jump. Please check them out, and share widely.
This first video takes down the lies of the NoM ad with the facts. The FACT is that three of the four cases NoM cites are notabout gay marriage. No, this is about discrimination, pure and simple. They don't want gays to have ANY rights in the public square. The guy doing this video has a great site at Waking Up Now.
Then, this video which just came out rightly replaces the storm imagery with sunrise, and instead of hired actors, uses actual gay people with actual gay lives and marriages. Including faith leaders, such as the estimable Susan Russell, Episcopal priest of All Saints Pasadena. You may recall that the rector of All Saints went on Oprah to explain that being gay is a "gift from God". (And despite the protests from a tiny fraction of loud Episcopal schismatics, this church is a mainline denomination. The Episcopal church really DOES welcome us!)
This video makes the broader points that this is not about religion, but about love, and Gallagher et al can't actually point to any harm done to them by the marriage of people like the ones in this ad.
Including people like me--joyously married to my partner in October in California, and now waiting....
Spread the facts and spread the truth.
