Amherst Guy cautioned us not to put too much stock in the election-day count for New York's 20th Congressional District, as reporting errors were likely to have a considerable effect on the unofficial numbers, one which would subsequently be rectified.
A number of Tedisco-friendly counties' returns have since come in, and as of this morning, Tedisco and Murphy were literally tied at 77,225 votes apiece.
However, Murphy's turf of Washington County has now come in with official results...and that has boosted the Democrat to new heights, according to The Albany Project's Phillip Anderson.
I'm hearing from a tipster in Washington County that, due to a reporting error on election night that has now been rectified, Scott Murphy just picked up a net of 198 votes. Says the tipster, the news "took the wind right out" of the Republican observers.
There's still thousands of absentee votes to count, but the bigger the cushion Murphy has before then the better. Earlier today, Tedisco and Murphy were literally tied, with 77,225 votes apiece, after the recanvassing was completed in Warren, Rensselaer, Otsego, Dutchess and Delaware counties.
They ain't tied any longer.
This is huge news.
As Phillip says, the uncounted absentee ballots are the most important by far in determining the ultimate winner...but a near 200-vote cushion heading into the absentee count would be fantastic, and a major boost to Murphy.
Stay tuned.
UPDATE: TPM confirms. Splendid!
