Some of you may have seen my diary from a few days ago highlighting a post on the webpage of the Republican Women of Anne Arundel County by the group's president comparing President Obama to Hitler. In addition, you may have caught the Ed Schultz Show last night and Keith O's "World's Worsts" last night profiling the webpage.
The issue was of personal importance to me because of my work with the Anne Arundel Democratic Party, and we on our local Central Committee got to work with activists to get the post taken down and have local Republican leaders condemn this sort of rhetoric.
I'm happy to say the pressure has worked, and it's been taken down.
The group's board of directors had this to say on their webpage:
Urgent message from RWAAC Board of Directors
The article put on our web site by Joyce Thomann was done solely by her. Our Board of Directors never saw the article and would never have approved it.We are not in support of Mrs. Thomann's personal thoughts ot (sic) opinions.
One wonders why it was left up for so long, given the nastiness of the rhetoric, but we will take those small victories as we can.
And if I could make a plug for the Anne Arundel County Democratic Party, fighting the good fight against the right wingers in our County, please feel free to visit our Act Blue page and show us a little love.
Thanks again for indulging me in a short diary about local politics.
