Three advertisers have pulled their advertising from Sacramento radio station KRXQ after controversial statements advocating violence against transgendered children. The three companies that have pulled their advertising are:
Dr. Pepper Snapple
Chipotle Mexican Grill
Sonic Corporation
Also, the website of advertisers posted in ereshkigal's diary of a couple of days ago, Transgender Hate on the Radio - How Did We Miss This? appears to no longer be up and accessible.
The three advertisers pulled specifically because of the comments made by Rob Williams and Arnie States on the morning show:
"God forbid if my son put on a pair of high heels, I would probably hit him with one of my shoes," States quipped.
Williams and States then took turns receiving listener phone calls, during which they called transgendered people "freaks," "fruits" and claimed that transgendered people suffered from "medical conditions" in which they felt the need to "bring attention to themselves." The shows third presenter, Dawn Rossi, appeared distressed during the segment.
Dr. Pepper Snapple released a statement:
We found the segment to be offensive and as a result, we are pulling our Snapple advertising from the station.
And Sonic Coproration said:
SONIC in no way condones violence toward children and does not wish to be associated with media content that condones or promotes such activity in any way.
The station and shcok jocks have not apologized and the show is still on the air, but the message sent by GLAAD and other concerned groups has certainly affected some advertisers and that is where the station will truly get the message.
UPDATE: I have been informed via email by Hermes (actually I am not sure if that is his/her DKos name) that Bank of America and Carls, Jr. have also pulled their advertising.
