Just finished wathcing "Real Time with Bill Maher."
He had on, among other guests, Anthony Woods: an openly gay black Iraq vet (two tours) with a degree from Westpoint & a Master's from Harvard. He is running for Congress in CA-10.
Oh my God, you guys, I'm in love. He's smart, he's sweet, he's a veteran - mark my words, he's going to be President some day. Maybe not after Obama, - Woods is only 28 years old now, so he'll still be quite young in 2016 - but certainly at some point.
Can you believe the poor dude had to leave his Army career after he came out in 2008 because of "Don't Ask Don't Tell"? And they made him reimburse the military for the $35,000 in Harvard tuition for the privilege of an honorable discharge?
Well, as MLK Jr. said, the arc of the moral universe is long, but it bends toward justice. I'm sure by the time Woods is old enough to run nationally, the fact that he's gay won't matter enough to derail him with the voters.
(Also: he's gorgeous. Ok, so I'm shallow. I admit it. Being pretty never hurt a politician yet.)
(Also also: I'm not going to opine on whether he's the best candidate for CA-10, because I have no idea who's running against him and on what platform. I just think this guy has "Future President" written all over his high, pretty forehead.)
