I'm watching with wonder at all of the news about Palin today, and tend to subscribe to the notion that she's bailing out rather than working on her 2012 presidential aspirations. It just feels like that is what's happening.
Whatever the reason, here's what struck me as more germane than anything: Her resignation (without any stated justification) probably puts her in stark non-compliance of the oath she took as Governor. This is probably not a big deal, as there are many other politicians (on both sides of the aisle) who are guilty of doing the same.
I don't know that I've found the actual Oath that she took, but this is the closest I could find for an oath of office for public officers in the State of Alaska:
"I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of Alaska, and that I will faithfully discharge my duties as Governor to the best of my ability."
It doesn't say "to the best of my ability, unless I decide to quit."
It adds that "The legislature may prescribe further oaths or affirmations."
Does anyone know if this is the actual text of the oath that she took?
