for a campaign that was known for techie prowess, i am stunned by how bad and inferior the DFA web site is compared to Kerry, Clark and Edwards, which are all now much more substantive and easy to navigate around. Dean's bio is short and doesn't say crap. no links to profiles (like the great one in the new republic "Invisible Man: Will the Democrats Notice Howard Dean"--i read that and became a convert right then). click on any of the other guys and you get a chock full of information. there are constant links to news articles. i finally found some news artices on DFA, but they are hidden and they date from December. the calendar has its last date as Jan 27 and nothing upcoming. by contrast, i click on Edwards' schedule and i can see every single event (and the calendar is not buried as a link-it's in plain site on the web site).
don't even get me started on how worthless DeanLink is. Howard Dean tv is also hard to navigate and not well organized. the speech archive is dated. i could barely find any of the commercials (not that they should be publicized--ha ha) while every single other candidate has easily accessible and organized video and commercials. if you were to go to the web sites now, you'd have no idea who was the one who set the political world on fire with techno wizardry.
the Dean campaign was a victim of total hubris. while the other guys (esp kerry) built up first rate web sites, the Dean folks decided to rest on their summer accomplishments. it's very depressing for me now to go the DFA web site (which i realize most people don't peruse, preferring the blog, but lots of voters now tuning in will probably just be checking them out). it's so sad to see a website (and media strategy) that is not worthy of my candidate and to see the others now far surpass us in this field. it's like no one bothered to do the basic thing of put up a decent bio of the gov. and who the heck wants to use Deanlink? argh. i will donate again tonight, because i still believe, but i think major overhauls are needed...
