First of all, I agree with Frank and Meteor Blades that Rep. Joe "Lie" Wilson's lack of manners should not dominate the discourse today. Second, I know we shouldn't spend too much time patting ourselves on the back. And third, I'd like to apologize for the short diary.
But it's pretty remarkable to see what has happened in the last 14 hours: over $200,000 $250,000 $300,000 $400,000 raised on ActBlue for Rob Miller, Wilson's 2010 opponent. Welcome to the first viral netroots backlash of the 2010 cycle. Let's make this one count.
Rob Miller is a former Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq. He lost to Wilson in 2008 with 46 percent of the vote -- while raising about $630,000 total.
In just fourteen hours, we're already a third half of the way to his 2008 total. The $200,000 $250,000 $300,000 $400,000 we've raised is over three times what he's already raised this cycle, according to OpenCongress.
Joe Wilson's days in Congress are numbered. Please give anything that you can here, and then get back to discussing the President's health care plan.
Update 12:26 PM ET: Rob Miller's official campaign site appears to be down, no doubt due to increased traffic. It now redirects to an ActBlue page. As such, I'm not sure about donating directly. If anyone in the comments has anything on this, I'll update accordingly.
Update 1:00 PM ET: Q: Is all of this pressure getting to Joe Wilson?
A: Given this stammering, teary-eyed quasi-apology, I would say, "Yes."
