Someone needs to check the expiry date on the Kool-Aid -
Newt and Frist are being blunt in their criticisms. Will wonders never cease?
Frist also said the federal government had acted too slowly in dealing with the hurricane's aftermath.
"Given the escalation of catastrophe that occurred over the first three days, absolutely I would have liked to see the federal government respond quicker, more rapidly, with better command and control centers and much improved communication," Frist said.
"I'm not going to get into finger-pointing now. I did call for oversight hearings -- I wouldn't have done that if I weren't concerned. We've got to do better."
This really got me thinking...
WASHINGTON - Bill Frist took off his senator's coat on Saturday and flew for New Orleans as a medical volunteer. But what he found among the thousands needing treatment from Hurricane Katrina was a rescue effort in chaos: patients sleeping on luggage conveyors, teams of nurses who didn't know each other's names and a total communication breakdown.
Hopefully, having some first-hand experience with this tragedy will convince Frist, AWISFIMD, that the estate tax is necessary - just look at everything adequate funding might have prevented.
If we're lucky, he might even see the light about the bankruptcy bill and the extraordinary hardship it will place on those who have already lost so much.
And if we're really, really lucky, some graphics whiz type will make a lovely poster-like object - something juxtaposing, say, a katrina survivor with paris hilton, a la:
paris hilton:
- two engagement rings worth however many millions
- however many houses
- however many cars
- etc., etc., etc.
katrina survivor:
- the clothes on her back.
With adequate budgeting, X, Y and Z could have mitigated the impact of hurricane Katrina. With proper funding, FEMA can anticipate and respond to emergencies effectively. etc., etc.,
America needs the estate tax....blahblahblah.
if you felt like getting snarky with it, it could even say "Remember: Katrina gave us 3 days' warning. Terrorist don't do that. America needs the estate tax."
hahaha
And to paraphrase Bill Maher, "if you have to tax people, you might as well tax rich dead people."
i wish i could afford newspaper ad space.
