When you are being trashed for being too cozy with Obama, the last thing you want to do if you're Florida Republican Gov. Charlie Crist is this:
Gov. Charlie Crist, who has been taking a steady pounding for his "man hug" with President Barack Obama in February, now says he might be with the president again Thursday in Tampa.
"If we can work it out logistically, I'll be with him," Crist said Tuesday.
Asked about the possibility of more backlash from Republicans who don't like the president or his policies, Crist said: "That's not my concern. My concern is fighting for jobs for the people of Florida, and that's my first and foremost duty, and I realize that."
Crist, now trailing über teabagger Marco Rubio in his primary battle for the Republican Senate nomination, can't take another hit like this and be remotely viable.
On the other hand, if you want to talk to a Democratic president about switching to the Democratic Party, then this could be a good opportunity.
A party switch is the only way for Crist to prolong his political career. Otherwise, he might as well start sending out resumes.
