I'd like to keep this simple.
Fact 1. Drudge constantly posts up-to-date links to news stories throughout the day, many of which reflect poorly on Bush or are otherwise of interest to dKos dwellers.
Fact 2. Virtually everyone who visits dKos regularly knows about Drudge and is capable of visiting his site.
Because of facts 1 and 2, can we try and limit posting links to Drudge (or otherwise huge) stories unless we:
- Are absolutely sure it hasn't been blogged to death already.
- Have something really bright to say about it and want to expand on the story even though its already been blogged to death.
- Can bring in another, lesser-known link that people will find informative.
I don't mean to clamp down on anyone's unimpeachable First Amendment right to post a diary whenever the hell they want, but we constantly see Drudge stories getting posted multiple times throughout the day. I don't know that it is helping anyone to post a link and some text from a story that most of us have probably already seen.
I'm perfectly fine with incorporating a Drudge story into a point that you're going to make, or expanding on a Drudge story in some intelligent way. However, unless you're like the early morning caffine addict blogger, or otherwise can be fairly sure that no one else has blogged the story you just read on Drudge, you might consider looking a little harder for your next blog.
