Well, I did my patriotic duty this evening after a decent workout at my local Bally's. The location was a bit difficult to find, but once I saw all the candidates' signs for the local and state-wide elections, I knew I was close to the right place. After parking my car in the parking lot next to a few others, I ran into some friends politicking for some of the candidates. We commiserated on the dreck we'd been seeing on the TV and hearing on the radio during this election season, and I met a young man who was running for office for the first time, for a position on the local Board of Education.
More below.
No problems noted at the polls when I was there. In fact, there were about 20+ voting machines, of the touch screen variety, but mine did not malfunction. Getting my ballot card was simple as well. I just needed to give them my name, address, and date of birth.
While I was there, I asked them how many folks showed up so far. Turns out there were 596 yesterday, a very good turnout for a weekday. Hopefully this will continue. No stats on proportions of Dems versus Reps, but in PG county I'm not sure that would be all that meaningful anyway, since probably voter registration runs about 70% Dem., if not more.
Of course, I voted for Mr. O'Malley and company. Now I'm freed up to help with getting out the vote on election day, maybe even poll watch. I understand Mr. O'Malley is wanting some help.
GOTV!!!!
