I am a proud NH Democrat, and I have been reassured as to how important it is that we all vote.
Today, I went to a 'Get Out The Vote' rally at Nashua Community College, where President Bill Clinton, Governor John Lynch, Congressional candidate in the Second District Annie Kuster and Senator Jeanne Shaheen spoke to the crowd. I had a wonderful time, and all of the speeches were inspired, but President Clinton's speech was especially impressive and showed how much the former President deserves his reputation.
Bill Clinton had come to the Granite State to campaign for John Lynch. His speech had several major themes. The first point covered was the complete, ironclad partisanship of the Tea Party Republicans, using as a primary example Minority Leader McConnell, who claimed that the GOP's primary goal in the next Congress would be the election of a new President: not jobs or deficit reduction, as they so often claim. The GOP's hypocrisy was pointed out also when he mentioned that the party, who portray themselves as fiscal conservatives, began the Bush Administration by repealing pay-as-you-go.
Also, Bill pointed out the pathetic futility of running against Gov. Lynch. Mr. Clinton stated, point by point, how people like John Stephen have nothing to run on. He reminded the voters that Lynch balanced the budget and has brought our state the second lowest unemployment rate, the second fastest race of job growth, the title for most livable state, the best state to raise a child, and a seventy-eight billion dollar surplus. He showed us, through the amazing success of Governor Lynch's tenure so far, that the opposition to his position is pointless and reasonless.
Next, he spoke about the misinformation and the alienation of some points of President Obama's agenda. He spoke about President Obama's great achievement of blocking and banning any future bailouts that are not paid by shareholders, pointing out that the media haven't spoken about them. I feel, in this, that he was speaking about Fox News, the Union Leader, and the other punditocratic conservative outreach in the media that have blocked these triumphs from being touted.
Lastly, he spoke about an issue where the rightwing media's blocked information of more importance for you and me and the middle class: Student Loan Reform. Bill Clinton mentioned something I haven't heard in the past. I didn't actually know that student loan reform was actually preventing the sinking of the finances of people who want to go to college, by making sure that payments for student loans are never more than ten percent of one's personal income. He told all of us in that room to tout that fact wherever we could- on Youtube, on college bulletin boards, on Facebook, on Twitter, in cafeterias, in every dorm room in the country and in conversations with our friends! We must make all young voters and all workers who want to go to college in the future know that the GOP will repeal this benefit!
Bill Clinton's speech was great. It's time we all get out the vote, as Mr. Clinton said, "For the sake of the country."
