Great work by the Southern Poverty Law Center
A short diary for information
I'm glad someone keeps these records, I am not going link to the hate groups themselves.
Even as some well-known anti-gay groups like Focus on the Family moderate their views, a hard core of smaller groups, most of them religiously motivated, have continued to pump out demonizing propaganda aimed at homosexuals and other sexual minorities. These groups’ influence reaches far beyond what their size would suggest, because the "facts" they disseminate about homosexuality are often amplified by certain politicians, other groups and even news organizations. Of the 18 groups profiled below, the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) will be listing 13 next year as hate groups (eight were previously listed), reflecting further research into their views; those are each marked with an asterisk.
I suppose they have to find someone to hate to make up for their obviously miserable lives, an easy target to ramp up the vitriol. Not satisfied that we are second class citizens they want to hound us continuously.
I always admire how the use the words 'concerned', 'American', 'traditional' and 'family' in the titles of their slavering hate groups. I suppose if you consider burning women at the stake to be a Patriotic American Tradition then this could work. I suppose it never occurred to them that just getting on with their lives rather than making hell for other people would be a viable alternative?
You can see the groups if not embraced by the Republican party they are tolerated by them; as they make up the base and create the wedge issues they love so much to divide the nation. The list makes interesting reading and is worth a quick look, I feel a bit sick after delving within so much hate in one short article.
The Southern Poverty Law Center does some amazing work
