EphemeralNotion's Diary: your daily source for
strrrrrange news!!!
Airplane passengers amount to a captive audience, and there are frequent reports of strange activity, such as
flight attendents using allegedly racist rhymes to coax passengers into their seats, or a
case of air rage where an intoxicated man defecated all over an airplane when he was denied another drink. Wacky stuff, all of which the poor passengers on those flights had to endure.
In this case, the pilot decided he'd play evangelist. Reportedly having recently returned from a mission trip, the pilot of this flight asked all Christians on the plane to raise their hands, suggested that all non-Christians were crazy, and encouraged all of those on board to use their time wisely. This has sparked an investigation into the incident.
Excuse me while I sigh. ::sigh:: This just underscores how volatile the subject of religion is to Americans. Of course, if this pilot had been of the Muslim religion, you can bet the flight would have been permanently grounded and the pilot taken into immediate custody. I imagine that all other religions would have earned a similiar reaction to what happened, today: an inquiry into the pilot's act.
At the same time, however, as a Christian it saddens me. One, because the pilot's behavior puts a bad face on my faith, and two, because none of the Christians on board (and I'm sure there was at least one) had the guts to raise their hands.
