As we celebrate the successful vote to invoke cloture on the repeal of "don't ask, don't tell," let's first thank everyone involved in the long process to end the U.S. military's official policy of discrimination.
And then let's mock John McCain's (R-AZ) incoherent babbling in the moments before the cloture vote began:
Today's a very sad day. The Commandant of the United States Marine Coprs says when your life hangs on the line, you don't want anything distracting it. Mistakes or inattention or distraction cost Marines' lives. I don't want to permit that opportunity to happen and I'll tell you why. You go up to Bethesday Naval Hospital. Marines are up there with no legs. None. You've got Marines at Walter Reed with no limbs.
Update:
From August, when Harry Reid appeared at the Netroots Nation convention:
He'll soon be able to finally return that ring to Lt. Choi.

Update: The usual waiting period between invoking cloture and holding the vote for final passage has been waived and will be held this afternoon at 3:00 (EST).
