Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders on MSNBC earlier today, saying that he will "do whatever it takes, certainly including a filibuster" to defeat the millionaire tax cut deal reached by President Obama and Senate Republicans:
Sanders addressed the claim that this is just a temporary deal:
I understand that the President is proposing a two year extension of tax cuts for the rich. What makes you think two years from now, that's going to change? Who in fact is going to believe the President -- anybody -- when they say well, I'm not going to extend the tax breaks for the rich. That's what we said two years ago.
Sanders added:
If anyone believes this is the end of what the Republicans want, you're sorely mistaken. They're going to come back right after this going after Social Security...this is just the beginning of their run.
Sanders is right: if this isn't a fight we can win now, who in their right mind believes we can win it next year or the year after? And the notion that Republicans will be satisfied after winning this round is simply foolish. There are times to draw lines in the sand and this is one of those times.
