Excuse the double negative of the title but I am sick of hearing how we need to allow Repugnicants to pass supposedly moderate judges because people are afraid of an alternative that's worse than...you know, Roberts. Saying no to everyone that has been thrown up to the nominating block is fine by me. One caveat is that we publicly offer viable alternatives that we can all live with. Bush is weak and vulnerable and that needs to be exploited.
Nevertheless at this moment we are screwed in the Roberts confirmation because the process is nearing completion. So this is a note for next time.
Complacency and the constant playing of defense to wingnuts is not the answer. My response to saying no all the time is 'Who cares?'
We are always going to lose if we keep this up. What needs to be done is to never give up reframing the debate. Instead of saying one of their nominees or policies is not as bad as what Repugs are capable of mustering up is counterproductive.
Let's offer our view of what the American judiciary should look like. Judges that uphold the right to privacy in all forms for example. In the short run we aren't going to see any return on this because the righties control the executive and legislative branches.
Yet if we don't offer a clear, distinctive path that counters Republican antics and sidestep them altogether we are doomed. It is time to stand up and get the country back on a progressive track and off the regressive one we are currently on.
