The petroleum-industry front-group Competitive Enterprise Institute has launched attack ads against the science of global warming in preparation for Al Gore's film, "An Inconvenient Truth". These will be "airing in a dozen cities beginning on May 18."
According to ThinkProgress, "Exxon documents reveal the company gave $270,000 to CEI in 2004 alone. $180,000 of that was earmarked for "global climate change and global climate change outreach." Orwelian, no?
"Exxon has contributed over $1.6 million to CEI since 1998."
So what do the ads say?
"Carbon dioxide, they call it pollution, we call it life."
Uh? Wha?
I'm not @#$%ing kidding you. See for yourself: http://streams.cei.org/
You'd swear it was a satire from The Daily Show with Samantha Bee narrating.
CEI says that environmental groups and politicians' claims of looming climate disaster due to energy use "are unfounded" - I'm not sure what their take on gravity and that Round Earth Conspiracy is though...
The ads also say that glaciers "aren't melting" - despite showing video of a collapsing glacier(!)
FUN FACT: Did you know that Michelle Malkin used to work for CEI - helping their "dioxin is good for you" campaign?
