The first two parts may have seemed sort of rambling.
I could go on forever, but if you have made it this far in this exploration of conspiracy theories, Ill try to summarize now.
Gas prices are a huge issue at the moment, it seems that was the only thing that has woken many people up to what may be coming. Our priorities are short sighted and just downright unrealistic.
Our Governments have been bought and paid for by big Business. The US has two "oilmen in the whitehouse". Canada has a Neocon in the parliament who only has eyes for Alberta.
So far this last two weeks we have seen the following:
LOWER THE TAXES! $100 to each family. Drill in the ANWR (they are trying to tie this into tax relief legislation, Isnt that despicable?)Drop all environmental standards on refining.
All short sighted, or designed to further global warming. They are political grandstanding. Are your opinions and vote that cheap?
Make the emissions standards higher. Good step. However. New more efficient cars which would account for only a small amount of all vehicles on the roads today. And the older cars are not gone, they usually move on to a new owner.
Go after the Oil companies profits. Do you really think this will actually happen? They do appear to be making a huge profit, at a time when they blame the taxes and the costs of production. But theres too many fingers in this pie. Not going to happen.
No, the way to get past this is going to be hard cold facts, and sacrifice from us all. Alternate energies will be expensive to invent and develop, and would put a crick in the shorts of a bunch of rich folks, who all have investments in: oil. When that reaches its peak the projected profits would be substantial, while the gap between the rich and the poor would widen. (There is also a group out there who believe that the end is now, and that the rapture is on its way in our lifetime.) We need to look at the funding behind some of this skeptic research. Much of it is funded by the Oil companies, and those with a financial stake in continuing our dependence upon fossil fuels.
If you look at the columns, there's far more hope economically for us all if we work towards environmental change.
I would prefer to err on the side of the global warming theory, and just get on it. The costs may be felt from the pockets, but we can adjust current economics and employment and living standards for all. Thats a variable here.
What wouldn't be a variable, is what the Global Warming scientists say is coming. We cant vary a result that we cannot control. Mixing economics with science, or religion with science= junk science. And that just results in denial.
What wouldnt be a variable, is not being better prepared for Peak Oil. Too late at that point.
Put as simply as I can: Global Warming, may destroy us. Peak Oil, is GOING to happen. When they both happen. Game over if we keep sticking our heads in the sand.
Kyoto was only a good place to start, and that opportunity has long passed now. We have about ten years left to act by some estimates, and 1 year by others, so although the real golden time has passed, we can still do damage control.
Everyone needs to get on the bandwagon now, before the frogs and locusts arrive.
As promised....heres some pictures....Alberta Tar sands in all their....Glory.
