From Halter campaign press release:
In the fundraising period for Apr. 29-May 19, Lt. Gov. Halter raised $777,119.94, easily outpacing Sen. Lincoln, who raised $552,289.91. Of her total, nearly half--$232,770.41—came from political action committees. In the runoff, 9,747 individuals have made contributions to Lt. Gov. Halter, and his average contribution is $37.11.
That means that right now...
Halter, who entered the Senate race in March, reported spending $835,629 during the period and having $494,584 on hand. Lincoln reported spending $1.7 million and having $2 million on hand.
Lincoln spent double Halter's amount in order to eke out a plurality victory in the primary, losing virtually every undecided voter in the process. And a significant (undefined) amount of that $2 million she has in the bank is general election money she can't touch in the runoff. She has the money advantage, but it's not doing her much good.
Why? Because she doesn't have a movement supporting her. Halter's 10,000 contributors in the week and a half since the primary is pretty darn impressive, and a reason why his campaign continues to gather steam at the expense of Lincoln's. While Blanche might like to rant about the "DC unions" who support Halter, fact is that regular people are drawn to his insurgent campaign in ways Lincoln can't even fathom. OpenSecrets.org hasn't updated their charts with the latest fundraising report, but here's where the money race stood as of April 28:
Remember, Lincoln's totals are for the last six years combined. Halter has been in the race for two months. Almost the entirety of his fundraising has come from tiny individual contributions, mostly Netroots-based (look at the graphic on the middle column, the Netroots, led by MoveOn, are now at $3.2 million raised for Halter). Lincoln's contributors are heavily skewed toward individuals giving thousand-dollar contributions. And, oh yeah, corporate PACs.
While I was over at OpenSecrets, I also noted this:
That's pretty pathetic fundraising, particularly for a 10-year DC establishment incumbent. If Lincoln wins the runoff, it won't matter. If I were Boozman, I'd max out to Lincoln right now. But if Halter wins, Republicans will have to put any Arkansas celebrations on hold. It'll be a real race.
