I have been saying for a long time here and here and here that Alexi Giannoulias is a top-notch candidate and a fighter. A man that will stand up for the people. When he sees the press, Alexi walks toward them and, . . . talks. Discusses the issues. Asks how's the family.
Mark Kirk see the press, and runs like hell. And my, he's fast.
And to make matters worse, Mark Kirk has not spoken to the press in over two weeks. That is just as well, because when he does talk, he doesn't wish to talk about the issues. That would mean defending his poor voting record.
Instead, he chooses to run.
Here is how Greg Hines of Crain's Chicago Business described the disgraceful scene.
As soon as that was done — with a swarm of TV cameras and reporters moving toward the front of the ballroom — Mr. Kirk bolted for a back door.
With media in hot pursuit, he raced through a Hyatt kitchen and into the back seat of a black SUV — I believe it was a Cadillac Escalade — which instantly peeled out.
Mr. Kirk, of course, has been under increasing scrutiny for falsely suggesting that he was named the naval intelligence officer of the year, commanded the Pentagon's war room, came under fire while on active duty, and declaring he learned about the impact of guns while teaching at a British prep school for a year at an upstate New York nursery school.
Alexi Giannoulias is calling Mark Kirk to task for his eight years of support for former President George W. Bush's failed foreign and domestic policies. Kirk voted for the Iraq War, the centerpiece of the Bush failures. Mark Kirk defended Bush until the bitter end of the Bush Administration, insisting that the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) were there: somewhere. Meanwhile, many American lives were lost and many Iraqi lives were lost because of this blind following of a failed President. Kirk also supported a destructive tax cut for the rich that Americans didn't want or ask for. Kirk voted against the people when he voted against health care reform. Can you blame the man for running? I would be ashamed too.
I want my United States Senator to stand up and fight for me. I don't want a Senator that turns tail every time there is a little heat. Alexi Giannoulias is a man that will stand up, look you in the eye, and fight for you.
