Conservative columnist Kathleen Parker has some wisdom to drop:
Obama: Our first female president
If Bill Clinton was our first black president, as Toni Morrison once proclaimed, then Barack Obama may be our first woman president.
Phew. That was fun. Now, if you'll just keep those hatchets holstered and hear me out.
No, I'm not calling Obama a girlie president. But . . . he may be suffering a rhetorical-testosterone deficit when it comes to dealing with crises, with which he has been richly endowed.
Okay, whatever. No hatchets from me. If conservatives want to call Obama a wuss, then by all means, go for it. Have fun with it.
The only thing I ask is that conservatives make up their mind. Obama can't simultaneously by a wimp and the second-coming of Adolf Hitler. (In fact he's obviously neither.)
Actually, now that I think about it a bit more, let me retract that. I don't care if conservatives make up their mind. What I'd really like to see happen is for conservatives to stop treating politics as if it were fashion show. We don't need their psychobabble. What we need is for them to work with us to get something done for the country or to get out of the way.
At the end of the day, it doesn't matter if they call President Obama a tyrant or a wimp. The only thing that matters is that they continue to block things like extending unemployment benefits to Americans struggling to find a job. And that's really what defines today's conservative Republican.
