This will be brief.
As another week slowly passes us by, and another suffocating heat wave breaks, we are still no closer to joining the rest of the developed world when it comes to scientific data.
When science warns of the worst that can happen, that prospect is not to be dismissed and ridiculed. Far from it. In fact, the intelligent plan is this-
Always prepare for the worst and hope for the best.
As a country, and overall, as a species, we are falling woefully short on that crucial 1st part.
So what is worse than having the beaches and wetlands of the south under a few inches of oil and toxic dispersant?
How about being under 20 feet of saltwater?
And this is also kinda not great-
LaBron and company better win that crucial championship quick, because playing hoops underwater is likely a much different challenge than it is on land.
The bittersweet irony might be that all the wealth shipped to the Cayman Islands by the oil, coal, and other various robber barons and plutocrats will be underwater.
We are running out of time when it comes to second chances. They say time heals all wounds; not this one. No, sir. Time makes this injury much worse with each passing day.
Our gov't has known about this. Indeed, they were warning us years ago, even when Bush was still preznit.
Our newest Senator may be a Democrat, but he is a Soul Coal Man.
Carte Goodwin, who will replace the late Democratic leader, Sen. Robert Byrd, told reporters in Charleston on Friday that he disagrees with the versions of climate legislation kicking around Capitol Hill when it comes to tackling greenhouse gas emissions with a mandatory cap.
The time has long since past for such antics.
We need to take action today.
(Okay, that is not true; we needed to have taken action last week year century)
What's the worst that can happen if we act?
Well, it's not that bad, actually-
(Spoiler: We spend some money.)
And this-
Please, we need to come together politically on this right now.
No matter what your core issue is, climate change affects us all.
Just this once, let's rally behind a common cause that could, in fact, save the planet.
Call Harry Reid:
(202)224-3542
Call the White House:
(202)456-1111
Demand they introduce the strongest possible bill next week including a cap on carbon emissions.
We have waited long enough too long already.
