Sharron Angle's newest attack on Harry Reid is a perfect example of up-is-down:
VO: It may be the most tragic love story of our time. Pelosi. Obama. And Harry Reid. Together they promised to change America, and boy did they -- taxpayer funded bailouts for Wall Street, a $787 billion stimulus that failed, and spending so reckless that it's led to record deficits and skyrocketing unemployment. They say you can't buy love, but we've certainly paid a heavy price.
What's wrong with this picture? Well, two of the three items cited by Angle are actually a direct result of policies proposed and signed into law by George W. Bush before the 2008 election. The bailouts were George W. Bush's idea and received overwhelming bipartisan support. Moreover, the deficit exploded during the final fiscal year for which Bush was responsible -- FY2009, which began in September 2008. And the biggest reason for the exploding deficit was Bush's mismanagement of the economy, his reckless tax cuts for the wealthy, and his disastrous war policy -- all areas that Democrats pledged to change. Whether they are changing fast enough is a fair question, but it's revisionist history to blame Democrats for problems Bush and the GOP created.
As for the stimulus, it's true that it wasn't large enough and that we need more of it, but Sharron Angle's plan is to do absolutely nothing, and that won't create or save any jobs. In fact, earlier in the campaign Angle actually attacked Harry Reid for helping save jobs at the MGM CityCenter project.
So this ad might have decent production quality, but as far as sticking to the truth it gets a big 'F.'
