The plot thickens:
Dr. Griff Harsh, Meg Whitman’s husband, just released a statement saying that it may be his handwriting on a 2003 letter that raised the possibility that their housekeeper was undocumented.
This after Whitman's press conference earlier today where she:
... appeared alongside her husband, said the letter in question never reached her desk and may have been intercepted by Diaz. "If there is a letter out there I don't know how they got it," she said. "It's not in our house."
And one day after Whitman:
... denied receiving letters from the IRS or Social Security Administration saying that Nicandra Diaz's name did not match her Social Security number.
So, what did the letter say?
... sent from the Social Security Administration to Whitman and her husband Griffith Harsh on April 22, 2003. It advises the couple that the Social Security number of their housekeeper, Nicky Diaz, did not match their files ...
The copy of the letter provided by Allred instructed Whitman and Harsh to look into the problem with Diaz's Social Security number and return forms with the requested information "promptly."
But they left it up to Diaz to take care of it. Or they never got it. Or it was intercepted by Diaz. Or Jerry Brown conjured it up out of magic dust.
Whatever happened:
"The essential fact remains the same," Harsh continued. "Neither Meg nor I believed there was a problem with Nicky's legal status and I certainly don't recall ever discussing it with my wife, nor did I ever show her any letter about it."
Of course Harsh doesn't recall ever receiving the letter with his handwriting on it either.
