If you're seeing this, it means Brillig has survived watching the SOTU and has not thrown the laptop at the television! I know we're all ready to chat about The Speech, so let me give you a couple of songs that have been running in rapid rotation on my iPod these days...
First up is Katy Perry's Firework. This song has gotten lots of airplay, but I hadn't listened to the lyrics, really listened, until a few weeks ago, when a friend asked me to... and I was blown away:
Positive, uplifting, and the music video had me in near-tears. Good tears.
you just gotta ignite... the light... and let it shine.... just own the night... like the 4th of july
Next song that's been in my mental shuffle play lately is thanks to K2's current fixation on the movie The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian. The closing scene, as the four children head back to the Real World, is set to the hauntingly beautiful The Call:
It started out as a feeling ... Which then grew into a hope ... Which then turned into a quiet thought ... Which then turned into a quiet word
And then there's my happy loud song du jour... Pink's Raise Your Glass:
So raise your glass if you are wrong in all the right ways ... All my underdogs, we will never be, never be ... Anything but loud and nitty gritty dirty little freaks
Wrong in all the right ways... I can think of no better way!
So... what music is on your mind tonite?

Quiet night in the TC mailbox, I think everyone was getting ready for SOTU! But still, it's quality not quantity that counts!
From sberel:
To put Spit's comment in the proper context, start here with Ezekial 23 20. The discussion is about Angola prison, who knows and does not know about it. You all should, so check also the user Angola 3 News.
From benintn:
In David Mizner's diary about her and Glenn Greenwald, Deoliver47 shows she is a class act who knows how to respect, empower, and include without compromising.
From Yours Truly, brillig:
