What it means to be a "grown up"

Wed Jul 02, 2008 at 09:02:13 PM PDT

You know what gets my goat?  A big lion.  No, seriously, it is all these "grow up" diaries.  Not sure what I mean?  Read some for yourself here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, here, and here.  This was just the first 30 searches.

I, like some others, are quite tired of it...

Krugman: "What sacrifices have you and your friends made, Mr. President?"

Fri Jul 06, 2007 at 05:25:31 AM PDT

The answer is none.

Another masterful home run from the always great Paul Krugman.

He asks and answers the question, no one has dared ask the man responsible for the deaths of close to four thousand American citizens and probably hundreds of thousands of Iraqis.

What sacrifices have you and your friends made, Mr. Bush? As Keith Olberman said, he has ceased to be the president.

Why not challenge the White House Press Stenographers to ask Mr. Bush just this question, the next time he's in front of a microphone.  Anyone care to bet?

Another Fighting Keyboardist

Wed Apr 18, 2007 at 07:40:41 PM PDT

Kevin O'Brien, an editorial writer for the Cleveland Plain Dealer, has decided to blame the students for not being tough enough to fight back against the shooter at Virginia Tech.

Kids, it's OK to fight back...
I suspect that many -- probably most -- were ill-prepared to react.

Fewer of them might have been killed if they'd realized that there are times when respectable, responsible people have to take matters into their own hands, because the authorities won't get there in time to handle things.

He is also, of course, a strong supporter of the war in Iraq, and has advocated a draft.
I have to assume he is some kind of Clark Kent/Superman reporter.  Clearly anyone who talks as tough as he does, yet does not seem to take any action on his own, must be secretly fighting crime and terrorists as part of an alter ego.

The Hippie Phobia Of Jonah Goldberg

Fri Nov 24, 2006 at 07:43:01 PM PDT

For the life of me, I cannot understand how Jonah Goldberg finds anyone to publish his ignorant, unsubstantiated, diatribes. In yesterday's column for the Los Angeles Times, Goldberg again demonstrates the shallowness of his knowledge and the laziness of his work habits.

The article is titled, A Tradition of Common Sense, and attempts to convey the view that Hippies opposed the concept. But all he succeeds in doing is demonstrating that he has no sense, common or otherwise.

Victor Davis Hanson Undercounts US dead

Fri Nov 17, 2006 at 07:43:59 AM PDT

In his most recent NRO piece;
http://article.nationalreview.com/...=

warblogger Victor Davis Hanson sternly reminds us that now is not the time for "shrillness" about Iraq.  Indeed, he says, "what we need at our possible 11th hour is not more shrillness, but concrete facts supporting the variously proposed remedies".

Sadly, VDH's attempt to enter the Reality Based Community is marred just two paragraphs earlier where he says "the enemy counts on the evening news showcasing the daily harvest of Iraqis, and the killing of at least four or five Americans each week".

According to the Iraq Casualty Count:
http://www.icasualties.org/...

Unites States deaths are running at 15 per week for the war.  Even during the most peacefull period deaths were more than 13 per week.  VDH is off by about 300%.

Something new to "savor" or...Who's the bitch now?

Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 08:51:40 AM PDT

Ya know after 2004 there was a lot of shit being flung in our general direction. The right was crowing over their victories and beating us like red headed step children.

Some would say that we should be the bigger people here and extend a concilliatory hand and be sportsmanlike. To them I say...BITE ME.

We watched as editorials were written about us and our loss and as right wing whack jobs used public media to excoriate us and lawd there victories over us. Well, it's our turn now.

I am going to start with a piece written by Peggy Noonan in the Opinion Journal immediately following the 2004 election, one remembered for one word...savor. I sure hope Ms. Noonan is savoring that crow fricasse I sent her....

Are Any Kos Posters Receiving Anonymous Email Threats RE: Defamation of Character Lawsuits?

Mon Oct 23, 2006 at 02:42:32 PM PDT

The 101st Fighting Keyboard Brigade seems to be engaged in a laughable, juvenile and pitiful attempt to intimidate comment and diarist posters on Kos and other sites in the left blogosphere.

This morning I received an email from my own email address which stated in an implied threat that "Defamation of Character is NOT protected in the Constituion <sic> as FREE SPEECH", plus a link to a USA TODAY article entitled "Jury Awards $11.3M over defamatory Internet Posts". The link to the article is  here. The story is about a dispute between two persons over a business issue, and does not relate to blog commentary about public figures.

Thu Oct 19, 2006 at 08:35:09 AM PDT

Good morning, patriots! It's Thursday, which means it's time for another episode of The War of the Words: The Story of the 101st Fighting Keyboarders, the historic 5-part documentary honoring the true heroes of the war in Iraq: the conservative bloggers, pundits, and commentators who've kept the home fires burning in the face of opposition from liberals and other traitors.

Part I, The Drums of War, examined the Keyboarders' role in building support for the war. Part II, Mission Accomplished, covered their triumph and joy during the invasion of Iraq. Now, in Part III, we witness a dark period in the 101st Fighting Keyboarders' struggle, as they learn that occupying a country is not the same thing as invading it.

The War of the Words: The Story of the 101st Fighting Keyboarders - PART II

Thu Oct 12, 2006 at 08:48:28 AM PDT

Welcome back, patriots, to Part II of The War of the Words: The Story of the 101st Fighting Keyboarders, the historic 5-part documentary honoring the true heroes of the war in Iraq: the conservative bloggers, pundits, and commentators who've kept the home fires burning in the face of opposition from liberals and other traitors.

Part I examined the role the 101st Fighting Keyboarders played in building support for the war during late 2002 and early 2003. Now, in Part II, we learn about the role they played during the invasion and occupation of Iraq: while American troops braved the tanks and guns of Saddam's defense forces in Iraq, the Keyboarders played an equally important role at home, using their bellicose rhetoric to create a crucial bulwark of support for their President. It would come to be known as their finest hour.

Thu Oct 05, 2006 at 08:29:08 AM PDT

Every American knows of the sacrifices our fighting men and women have made during the invasion and occupation of Iraq. Yet there is another group whose contributions to the war effort have gone largely unnoticed... until now. I am proud to invite Daily Kos readers to the worldwide premiere of Part I of the new 5-part documentary, The War of the Words: The Story of the 101st Fighting Keyboarders.

HUMOR: The War of the Words: The 101st Fighting Keyboarders Documentary

Mon Oct 02, 2006 at 07:23:18 AM PDT

Regardless of how one feels about the war in Iraq, it seems, everyone agrees that the men and women of our armed forces deserve our praise and gratitude for selflessly placing themselves in harm's way in a dangerous land. Yet there is another group of Americans who have been crucial to our success in the war, who deserve our thanks as well. You may know some of their names: Glenn Reynolds. Michelle Malkin. Jeff Goldstein. Robert Novak. Ann Coulter. But there are countless others, some known only to God. Theirs is a story of courage, determination, and above all, typing. They are the conservative bloggers, pundits, and commentators whose loud and prolific support of Republican foreign policy goals helped change the course of American history in ways that will be felt for many years to come.

They are the men and women--mostly men--who have come to be known as the 101st Fighting Keyboarders. And now, at last, their story can be told.

You want to stay in Iraq? Then... go. Just... go.

Mon Aug 21, 2006 at 04:58:46 PM PDT

The battle for the next fifty-first state continues each day unto infinity.
And 61% of the country has gotten tired of it.
Yet still you carry on, I have no doubt in trying to prove that Iraq is an important part of the 'fight for our freedoms'.
So... if you feel so badly about the idea of pulling out of Iraq...
Then go.

Lieberman, "Angry Bloggers," 101st Fighting Keyboarders, and DC Pundits

Wed Aug 16, 2006 at 05:46:58 AM PDT

I have wondered what rarified, namby-pamby environment Lieberman and the pox of pundits inside the beltway were raised in that a couple of four-letter words could be described variously as fierce anger, insanity, or the end of civilization as they know it. Surely the planet will not be disturbed in its rotation around the sun if someone writes "shit" on a blog somewhere. So what's up?

A Fate Worse Than Death

Mon Aug 07, 2006 at 08:33:51 PM PDT

[Crossposted at The Crolian Progressive and My Left Wing.]

I've read clammyc's diary entitled "Either You Are for Bombings and Killings or You Are Not," which argues, in part that life, and an end to war, should be preserved at all costs.

...What it really boils down to is this: You are either for finding a peaceful solution, regardless of how difficult it is or how long the odds are, or you are for the justification of killing more people for whatever reason makes you sleep better at night. ...

Killing leads to more killing.  Plain and simple.  If your town or house is raided or bombed, or if a family member is killed by a bomb or by "accident", chances are that you are going to be pissed and hold a grudge.
