July in Oklahoma heats up, especially in election years.
With the primary election four days away, Andrew Rice's campaign is getting more intense. We took it to the next level on Monday by launching our first TV ad, called "Leader." This 30-second ad has received great feedback from all corners of Oklahoma.
Donating is tough, I know. First of all, money is in short supply. And you're never really that certain that what you are giving is making a difference. I mean, $25 to a candidate? What does that buy? A dozen bumper stickers? A second of TV time for an ad?
But there's a race that hasn't gotten the attention it deserves, and it just might be the place where your donation dollar goes a lot farther than it could elsewhere.
Democratic State Senator Andrew Rice is going up on TV this week in Oklahoma with this ad:
His campaign is also issuing a challenge on Act Blue to help raise $35,000 to keep TV ads running. Rice's only weakness in Oklahoma is his name ID, which will skyrocket through TV ads. So please, if you can, lend Sen. Rice some money. It will be well worth it.
My older brother David Rice was a Democrat. He was killed on the 104th floor of the South Tower in the World Trade Center on Sept. 11th, 2001.
David was killed with Republicans, Independents, and Democrats. On that day, they were not members of political parties, they were Americans.
Some Americans and politicans apparently believe my brother was to blame for his own murder because he voted Democrat, which apparently surrendered our borders to those who want to kill us.
Congressman John Sullivan is George Bush with an Irish surname. The son of wealthy Tulsa family, Sullivan is an unaccomplished politician whose appeal derives from an affable personality that makes him the kind of guy you'd want to have a beer with. While Sullivan's friendly demeanor is enough to endear Tulsa's influential power brokers, ordinary constituents are tired of weak representation in Washington.
Although our chances of taking down Sullivan looked bleak, an incredibly promising challenger filed at the last minute in this Tulsa-based district. Her name is Georgianna Oliver and she's ready to give John Sullivan the fight of his life.
I'm writing to express my deep appreciation for the Economic Stimulus Check I received today.
I know you take government frugality very seriously, so you obviously believe deeply in the stimulative value of this program. I thought the least I could do in return was to let you know how I am doing my part to provide the stimulus this country so desperately needs.
Right now seems to be a little lag in on-line fundraising. Perhaps everyone is a little burned out. Perhaps people are out of money. Perhaps they just need to be motivated In order to help keep the pace moving along as it should, there is a contest that can earn some good candidates some more funds.
We all know that we have to keep on a fast pace until November. The Republicans will continue to find ways to raise money.
If you are supporting any of these candidates , please take two minutes and help them in a contest at The Progressive Electorate

Given what happened yesterday, I feel it's important I repost my earlier diary on who are the GOOD Democratic challengers when it comes to FISA. I'll try to corral all their statements into this diary, so you can see who the "good guys" are.
First, let's start off with the current House and Senate members who voted against this bill. (For the Senate, I'm only including those who voted against cloture yesterday for the bill.) They do deserve credit, as it's their jobs on the line.
Follow me below the fold to see the dozens of Democratic challengers who are standing up for the Constitution, and are against this FISA bill and retroactive immunity.
State Senator Andrew Rice has an uphill fight against resident idiot Senator James Inhofe. Inhofe has taken over $1 million dollars from big Oil PACs and CEOs. The Oklahoma Race is based around name recognition. As long as Rice can have enough media to get his name out through television commercials, then he can take out Inhofe. Inhofe has a ceiling that he is pressed against and only has down to go. Rice has low name ID (48% according to Kos poll). Help Rice boost his end of the quarter numbers by contributing to his Orange to Blue page.
As of 9:45 Oklahoma time, he has 610 donors with $9,084.
We have a little over two hours to go, help raise that 1k left.
UPDATE: 10:00 Central 626 donors with $9257
Campaign Act Blue Page: 198 donors, $15,750
By the way, the Daily Show and Colbert Report are re-runs. So, there's nothing to do for the next hour.
Update 2 10:30 Central
Orange to Blue: 678 donors with $10,173
Campaign: 204 Donors, 16, 385.
Mission Accomplished.
I don't have a jump suit and a big banner, but thanks.
I will no longer be donating to Barack Obama for the forseeable future, though I'm one of his earliest and most vociferous, consistant supporters on Daily Kos. I'm plum broke, and I have neglected my other candidates in critical congressional races.
It's time to put my money where my mouth is. We've lifted Obama up, we need to give him a progressive majority.
Our history is not written in stone. It is time to bring new history to Oklahoma. Will you join me, below?
There’s a reason they call candidates like me "challengers." It’s a challenge to knock off an incumbent as entrenched as Jim Inhofe. It’s a challenge to be a progressive Democrat running in a state like Oklahoma, which, in many people’s minds, is solid red. It’s a challenge to run a grassroots campaign, fighting for everyday people, when our opponent is well-financed by moneyed special interests.
It’s a challenge we’re meeting. It’s a fight that’s worth fighting. And it’s a race that we will win in November.
But today’s a critical day for me as a challenger. More than any other day of the campaign, you can have the greatest impact on this race TODAY.
Today, the Oklahoma State AFL-CIO held its COPE Convention. The main reason for this convention is to endorse candidates for office. Below the fold is the listing of candidates officially endorsed by the states AFL-CIO.
You might notice that Rep. Dan Boren is missing from those endorsements. The reason for this is that his voting record regarding labor was not up to par. District 4, home of Rep. Tom Cole also received a no endorsement
I thought I would compile a list of Senior Oklahoma Senator Jim Inhofe's best quotes over his excruciatingly long stint in Congress. I'll start with his worst policy quotes and work down towards his most outlandish personal attacks and idiotic statements.
10.The Separation of Church and State
Global Warming: "the second-largest hoax ever played on the American people, after the separation of church and state."
9. the Iraq War
“I honestly believe the dancing in the streets after Afghanistan will not hold a candle to the dancing in the streets we will see not just in Baghdad, but in all the oppressed surrounding nations.”—Senate Floor Speech, March 20, 2003
8. Global Warming
“With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? It sure sounds like it.”—Senate Floor Speech, July 28, 2003
Hey everyone. Want to get a good sense about what a ridiculously Democratic year we can have? Kos did a poll in Oklahoma earlier this month and Jim Inhofe's "definite re-election" number is just 39% in O-K-L-A-H-O-M-A ! Rice's name ID was very low, so he needs the resources and can win.
Any sentient being that cares about the environment knows that Sen. James Mountain Inhofe (R-OK) is the worst public servant when it comes to protecting our earth. He is most famous for saying on the Senate floor:
“With all of the hysteria, all of the fear, all of the phony science, could it be that man-made global warming is the greatest hoax ever perpetrated on the American people? It sure sounds like it.”
In friday's Independent from the UK, the headline will read: Exclusive: No ice at the North Pole
In the last couple days, there have been several posts across the blogosphere citing what various candidates running for Congress have said on FISA and retroactive immunity for the telecoms. But so far, it's been all over the map. I'll try to corral all their statements into this diary, so you can see who the "good guys" are.
First, let's start off with the current House and Senate members who voted against this bill. They do deserve credit, as it's their jobs on the line.
Follow me below the fold to see the dozens of Democratic challengers who are standing up for the Constitution, and are against this FISA bill and retroactive immunity.
Jim "I hate polar bears" Inhofe knows we'd love nothing more than to dethrone the Great Denier.
With a week left in June, Inhofe is sending out emails stating that he is about $20,000 away from his June fundraising goal. In the same email he warns about "Hollywood special interests" (read: Barbara Boxer's PAC for a Change) threatening to dump money into the race. Inhofe may deny the fundamentals of climate change but he isn't denying the pressure, financial or otherwise, that he will feel in this race.
By now I'm sure most everyone is familiar with PAC for a Change. In any case, let's help send Jimmy packing. If you haven't already, vote for Andrew Rice at PAC for a Change or contribute directly to Andrew Rice's campaign.
Go on, you know you are a "Hollywood special interest."
