This is just something that has annoyed me for a while and in light of todays New York Times piece about age I thought I would clarify the quote.
From the NYT today

(Mr. Obama himself in May said that Mr. McCain was “losing his bearings.”)

The NYTs implied this was a slur against McCain's age. This is because they apparently don't know what "losing your bearings means."

 "Because John McCain always says 'I am not going to run that kind of politics,' and to engage in that kind of smear is unfortunate, particularly because my policy toward Hamas has been no different than his."

  "I've said it's a terrorist organization and we should not negotiate with them unless they recognize Israel, renounce violence, and unless they are willing to abide by previous accords between the Palestinians and the Israelis. So for him to toss out comments like that I think is an example of him losing his bearings as he pursues this nomination. We don't need name calling in this debate."

Dr. Lieberman:

‘I just want to report that this morning I personally checked John McCain’s bearings. He has not lost any of them. They are all in really great shape."

Little too much information, maybe, Joe?

When the media reported that Senator Obama thought that McCain had lost his beaerings, Joe Lieberman chirped-in with the following on YouTube: stating that he, Joe, had personally checked John's bearings and found them to be just fine.
