COLUMN: The New Permanent Campaign

Fri Feb 29, 2008 at 06:57:51 AM PDT

Democratic turnout numbers in the current election cycle are positively astounding. But what will be the lasting impact of that turnout beyond potentially electing a Democratic president? That is the question of my weekly syndicated newspaper column out today - and the answer is very, very encouraging for progressives.

On Democratic activism and New Year's resolutions

(cross-posted on Great Lakes, Great Times, Great Scott)

I made twelve new year's resolutions for 2008. Now, almost eight weeks into the year and 254 days from the Big Day, I wanted to reflect on those resolutions and what I'm doing to change our Party and our communities for the better. As you read about what I've done/am doing, I want you to think about what you have done and can do.

So join me below the fold for a 20-year-old's perspective as I continue the journey that is Scott Urbanowski's 2008.

Have Coffee with Howard Dean and Mark Brewer this weekend

Tue Oct 23, 2007 at 11:17:53 AM PDT

There have been so many moments throughout history where real men and women have revolutionized the face of politics and we've often found ourselves wondering what it would be like to be a part of it. Now is one of those times where Democratic politics are more than ever an integral part of reshaping the face of the political landscape. Howard Dean, chair of the Democratic National Committee and Mark Brewer, chairman of the Michigan Democratic Party and Chair of the Association of State Democratic Chairs are a very big part of that change.

For the first time ever, you can sit down, grab a cup of coffee, and talk shop with them.

Contrasts in Western New York

Wed Oct 11, 2006 at 11:53:55 AM PDT

The contrast between the values of Democrats and Republicans in Western New York was very much on display last weekend.

While most political news coming out of the Buffalo and Niagara Falls region focused on the inaction of Republican Congressman Tom Reynolds (R-NY) and his role in the Foley scandal, local Democrats were working hard to help area veterans.

The Niagara County Democratic committee, in conjunction with Blue Tiger Democrats, hosted a weekend benefits drive for area war veterans. The five events collected "wish list" items for veterans at the area VA hospital and were a great success! At five different locations, Niagara County Democrats and Blue Tiger Democrats collected items filling five SUVs. These items will be delivered to the Buffalo VA hospital.
