Some leftists rejoice at the decline of Pax Americana: I do not.  In and of itself no empire is a good thing, but some evil realities are less heinous than others.  The problem with most articles about the coming ascent of India and China or the EU or so on is they are either slick neoliberal propaganda targeting investors or paranoid, purity-leftism done in poor-taste and ill-conceived. But I for one do not look forward to a future of increase from 100,000 Indian farmers committing suicide due to neoliberalism, or to the extinction of the river dolphin in India and Pakistan as well as China.  Or to more war and pain.  So why the hell are we letting Bush & Co. make a few explosions to distract all while they're sacking and looting the whole planet?

While sovereignty as Westphalian states have known it is doomed, happily for nations, there appears to be agreement between nations and corporate managers about some uses of national sovereignty.  Both camps seem to concur that nation-building is a role of the state.
