Celebrity bartenders helping raise money
Thu Sep 20, 2007 at 03:45:51 AM PDT
Last evening I had a chance to attend an event put on by the Young Voters PAC in a bar on Capitol Hill. The organizer is run by Jane Fleming Kleeb, wife of 2006 Nebraska Congressional candidate Scott Kleeb. It was an accessible event, with a minimum buy-in of $50, and the hook was the celebrity bartenders. A complete list of those who were going to fill that role can be seen here. I was unable to stay for the entire event, as I had to attend a meeting of a non-profit board on which I served. But I want to briefly describe the good work this organization does, and the people I did see while I was there.
So please keep reading. This will be relatively short.
3rd Annual Democracy for New York State Conference
Sat May 05, 2007 at 07:48:02 AM PDT
Good Morning from Albany!
John McBride is giving his opening remarks for the 3rd Annual Democracy for New York State Conference. Jim Dean is here. Tom Hughes is here. Appaluse has just broken out as John said we are going to work on turning the State Senate over to Democratic control next year. This in turn lead to an introduction of Brian Keeler, NYBri from DailyKos and The Albany Project, and former (and future) candidate for State Senate.
Eric Massa will be here tonight. Jessica Wisneski is here to talk ab out Campaign Finance Reform. Bo Lipari will be here to talk about where the battle for paper ballots, optical scan voting systems here in New York is right now.
We've a full day planned. An evening of dinner, Eric Massa, and a movie, "Taking The Hill," a documentary about Massa's campaign in '06.
More tomorrow. I'll try to update folks as we move along today.
Peace,
Andrew

NYC meetup report -- with pics!
Tue Nov 21, 2006 at 03:39:23 PM PDT
We had yet another great meetup last night in New York City. Around 30 dKos regulars and irregulars showed up for a post-election party at Yaffa's in Tribeca.
Thanks everyone for coming! To those of you who didn't make it, we look forward to seeing you at a future meetup! If you want to receive email announcements about these, just drop a line to me or to vancookie (our email addresses are in our profiles) and we'll add you to the list.

NYC Kossack meetup -- TONIGHT!!
Mon Nov 20, 2006 at 08:28:03 AM PDT
Tonight's the night! The post-election NYC dKos meetup starts at 6:30 at Yaffa's in Tribeca. Based on responses so far, we're expecting a great turnout.
We deserve a collective toast for all the hard work and energy that went into the '06 elections. Each one of us made a difference this year!
Our favorite blogger-candidate Brian Keeler (NYBri), is coming, as well as his campaign's volunteer army. Come and tell them (once again) how great they all are and how proud we are of what they accomplished.

NYC post-election MEETUP
Fri Nov 17, 2006 at 05:01:05 PM PDT
In case you haven't heard already, NYC Kossacks are getting together for a
post-election bash on Monday night. Absolutely everyone is going to be there. Come by and say hello to old friends, new friends, minor blog celebrities, candidates, lurkers and anyone else who shows up. It's time to get together to celebrate what we have accomplished.
We deserve a collective toast for all the hard work and energy that went into the '08 elections. Each one of us made a difference this year!
Our favorite blogger-candidate Brian Keeler (NYBri), is coming, along with his band of merry men and women. Come give them all a special pat on the back for their hard work. In lieu of a pat on the back, lipris will gladly accept a free drink.
An announcement for this event was sent out to the NYC dKos meetup email list. If you are not on the list and would like to be, please email vancookie or me; our email addresses are in our profiles.

NYC Meetup Monday Night--WE'RE ON!
Thu Nov 16, 2006 at 12:29:18 PM PDT
It's a go!
The first NYC meetup since the Dems took the House AND the Senate will take place on Monday evening at Yaffa's in Tribeca! It's time to celebrate our victories, lament our defeats, discuss our experiences, and start scheming about next steps.
Our very special guest will be Brian Keeler (NYBri), who threw his hat in the ring to run for NY state senate. He and his volunteer army worked their butts off; join us and tell them what a great job they did!!
If you are not on the NYC meetup email list and want to be, send your email to me or to vancookie (both our email addresses are in our profiles).
Special thanks to my co-coordinator vancookie, who got us in to Yaffa's on very short notice.

No Regrets
Wed Nov 08, 2006 at 01:58:52 PM PDT
I have no regrets.
Yesterday, I lost an election. Today, the battle is rejoined.
When I was lucky enough to be asked to address the YearlyKos Convention, I asked two pretty simple questions.
"Will everyone who is working on a campaign, running for office, or knows a kossack who is running and can't be here, please stand up?"
About 100 people stood up.
I then asked:
"Will everyone in the room now stand up?"
They did and I pointed out, "When I return next year and address the convention, this is the response I want to see after I ask the first question, because if I see this, I know we will have won."
Thank You BRIAN KEELER (NYBri)!!

(Please recommend this diary and keep it up all day to show our infinite appreciation for Kossack (NYBri) Brian Keeler's selfless and pioneering effort to launch our community into mainstream electoral policy-making and to bring home NY's 41st Senatorial District)
To: Brian Keeler -- fellow Kossack, progressive simpatico, and friend
Though Dean and Trippi were two of the first to effectively incorporate the progressive Netroots in a high profile political campaign...
Though candidates like Tester, Lamont, and Webb have found their way into the hearts and minds of many a blogosphere member...
Though many a candidate has discovered the value of tapping into the community that has helped define the direction of American politics in the 21st Century...

Hello from Beacon NY, ok well I think its actually Hopewell Junction, but Beacon has a train station. You read that diary title correctly, we are live in the Keeler household. First things first, I am going to post and run, or more like post and sleep. Tomorrow morning we get up at 4 (my alarm is set for 4:30) and head out to greet Duchess county.
I asked the campaign if they had any use for me if I took off election day and they said sure come up. I asked if there was anything going on early Tuesday that they could use me for and they said sure come on up.

That's how much cash the New York DSCC has on hand as of their last filing. It's 5 days out from a once in a generation cycle and they are sitting on close to million freakin' bucks. The scuttlebutt I hear is that they are saving money for the next cycle. No, really. You read that right. They are hoarding for the future.
Some background and why this is pissing me off so freaking much is in order.
>I'm up here in the Hudson Valley busting ass for a fantastic State Senate candidate, Brian Keeler, our very own NYBri. We are running a totally people powered campaign. We have a paid staff of...
...none.
We get a bigger bang for the buck than just about any campaign in the country. LarryInNYC recently referred to us thusly:
NYBri's campaign is the 50 state strategy.

Sat Oct 28, 2006 at 03:19:17 PM PDT
It's now 9 days until the election. Tommorrow, Sunday, October 28th a group of New York City dKossers will be heading up to Beacon to help dKos candidate Brian Keeler (
NYBri) in his campaign to wrest control of the New York State Senate from the Republicans.
I'm providing transportation, we have room for two more people. I'm also buying lunch for our group -- so this is an all-expenses-paid canvassing trip!
