Overdosed (You too? Poll)

Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 12:59:52 PM PDT

Ok, uncle.  I can't hardly read another blog, fret over another poll, or gasp at another comment on this election until the democratic nominee is settled on.  I feel like Mr. Creosote - "I can't eat another bite!" I'm writing this today.  Tomorrow I am going to the Texas caucus and then I'm going cold turkey until the conventions.  It's so depressing sometimes to read the pitched battles of the campaigns to define the message that gets out (the spin wars).  It can be even more depressing to read the comments of the completely misinformed or the just plain bitter.  Its not so bad here but on some of the more general blogs, it gets so bad I start to lose my faith in humanity.

On Burnout

Tue Feb 12, 2008 at 12:17:07 AM PDT

Disclaimer: This post isn't directed towards any specific person.  Trust me, I've been hearing this from just about everybody.

A year ago liberal activists were in high spirits.  We had just taken back the US Congress from 12 years of Republicon rule and were looking forward to a new period of peace, prosperity, and opposition to the Bush administration.  In Michigan, we helped reelected Governor Granholm, took back the State House, and made gains in the State Senate.  The Republicons were hurting so bad that Michigan Liberal taunted Saul Anuzis with an endorsement for reelection to chair of the MIGOP.  We were filled with hope, and life was good.

But since then we've seen a whole lot of things happen that have dampened our spirits.  Not just on the blogosphere, but throughout the entire liberal activist community.

Maybe it's because my husband is in the hospital, or maybe it's because I spent upwards of 60 hours as our party secretary working on getting our precinct caucuses together or maybe it's because I know something about community organizing...but I just don't have that lovin' feeling toward Barack Obama.

Today the world has defeated me
World one, me zero
I don’t know if I can fight the world
Much longer and keep loosing
To make a tiny dent in history
The tiniest dent in our momentum
The trajectory that is heading
Into the abyss

A Meme for Our Problems... or Lay Down Your Hammers

Mon Jul 24, 2006 at 05:08:44 PM PDT

My diaries need more cowbell.

The mistakes we make when we try to imagine our personal futures are lawful, regular, and systematic.  They have a pattern that tells us about the powers and limits of foresight in much the same way that optical illusions tell us about the powers and limits of eyesight.
Daniel Gilbert -- Stumbling on Happiness

I've read a number of diaries and comments on dKos that include the line "people at dKos don't care about..." For example, this happened when I was reading arodb's diary Bush veto, and the authoritarian personality. When I read it, 7 people had posted.  Personally, I thought that was pretty good, because that was 4 more posts than I have on my Sunday diary.

For those of you who see 7 posts and say that's 7 Kossacks who care, mouth the words "well, duh..." and please skip to the second paragraph past the fold, b/c after that the political stuff starts.  Those of you who think 7 posts mean people at dKos don't care about an issue, I think we can agree on the problem and the solution.

They told me to write a diary ...

Mon Jul 24, 2006 at 12:26:42 PM PDT

... so here I am, writing a diary. Do I always do what people on DKos tell me to do? No, not hardly. I don't even always do what I tell me to do! I'm a bit on the contrary side that way. Tell me I must do something, and I am just as likely to do the opposite.

However, I was hanging out in Top Comments last night, and mentioned that I have been fighting a stupid summer cold for the last couple of days. I also mentioned that I might stay home today, to give my body a chance to continue to heal itself. With asthma, I don't like running myself into the ground and trying to work with upper respiratory problems. Not smart. So, I'm staying home. And someone suggested I write a diary ...
