A Gay Agenda and Concerned Women

Tue Feb 19, 2008 at 10:15:02 PM PDT

Oh, the predictability.

Just weeks after I wrote an editorial on my blog on the San Francisco Chronicle's website criticizing Matt Barber, of Concerned Women for America -- one of the first homophobic organizations to latch onto the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) press release relating to staph infections (MRSA) as evidence of the danger of homosexuality -- he has retaliated by quoting from a satirical article I wrote back in 2005 titled The Gay Agenda

"Pro-Life" : Babies, Yes; Educated Teen Moms, NO

Thu Jan 24, 2008 at 11:37:50 AM PDT

Denver schools are considering granting a minimum of 4 weeks f maternity leave to teenage girls  who give birth, as some other schools systems in the nations do. Without a note from her doctor  justifying her absence, she is expected to return to school the day after she is released from the hospital or face being charged with  an unauthorized absence. I saw the CNN segment on this topic a couple of weeks ago. I hoped someone else would cover it, but apparently no one did. I think it’s important enough that it deserves to be disused here, even a few weeks later.

"My initial reaction is if we are punishing girls like that, that is unacceptable," said Nicole Head, one of the counselors who brought the matter to the school board last month. "We've got to do something."

Just a quick and funny video from the Concerned Women for America news conference on the "mini Sodom and Gomorrah" held every year in San Francisco. We call it "Folsom Street" but after you watch this video you'll see that the Christian Right has many more names for it.

Operation Rescue's Backers -- Not a Secret Anymore

Tue Jul 10, 2007 at 05:21:24 PM PDT

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket As the Army of God honors executed murderer Paul Hill in Milwaukee and Operation Save America descends upon the same clinic bombed by Eric Rudolph, Operation Rescue prepares to host its own event in Wichita. Its target is Dr. George Tiller, the object of a years-long crusade by former Kansas Attorney General Phill Kline.

Besides the usual gang of suspects with shadowy pasts and dubious friends, this year's list of high-profile guest stars includes the president of a United States NGO delegation to the United Nations.

Not bad for a group with its own ties to the Army of God.

Religious Rightist Blows Smoke, Changes Subject

Wed Feb 28, 2007 at 10:57:38 AM PDT

"Note the irrationality of the left's rhetoric," wrote Janice Shaw Crouse, Ph.D, a senior fellow at the Beverly LaHaye Institute, the think tank for Concerned Women for America, in a recent column on the rightist Townhall.com.

What caught Crouse's ire was a report published late last year by Pam Chamberlain of Political Research Associates, on the Christian Right’s anti-abortion, anti-contraception campaign at the UN.

Chamberlain refers to the left as "human rights activists" (as though their radical agenda is based on human rights; their mantra is that "women’s rights are human rights"). She assumes that international meetings are an exclusive club for elite leftists and that those "bizarre" conservatives -- the people that the Washington Post labeled the uneducated, easily-led religious right -- are crashing the party.

Jeopardy Question for the Day

Wed Dec 06, 2006 at 11:48:49 AM PDT

Janice Crouse, a spokeswoman for Concerned Women for America, had this to say today:

Father absence is the biggest problem we're facing in this country ...the root cause of all sorts of negative outcomes — drug use, juvenile delinquency, you name it.

Was this concerned woman for America discussing:

A. Children of fathers on their fourth deployment to Iraq.

B. Children of fathers who have died in Iraq.

C. Mary Cheney’s pregnancy.

Sekula-Gibbs Embarrasses Texas & Texas Women

Yes, that's Gibbs next to our favorite pedophile enabler, Republican Dennis "the Menace" Hasert. One presumes she is giving him a high-five.

Shelley is the featured act in perhaps the funniest article I've read in the WaPo entitled "Lame-Duck Texas Rep. Gets Down to Work Without DeLay." Get it? Without Delay? I was laughing so much my checks started looking like Shelley's signature pair.

Christian Right Seeks GOP "Pink Purge"

Wed Oct 18, 2006 at 10:37:53 AM PDT

Since the Foley scandal in which top GOP House leaders covered up the pedophilic activities of Rep.Mark Foley (R-FL), the Christian Right has been trying to change the subejct.  And like the Vatican, when faced with a similar situation a few years ago, they are trying to blame it on homosexuality, and shift the focus away from those those who evidently enabled  and covered-up for those who abused children under their care.

Religious Rights Weighs in on Foleygate

Sun Oct 01, 2006 at 11:40:36 AM PDT

Rep. Mark Foley's predilection for pubescent young men, his public exposure (pun intended), and subsequent resignation exploded in the MSM on Friday.  Now considering that the religious right stridently preaches against what they term the "homosexual agenda," one could rightfully assume that Dobson, Kennedy, Scarborough and all the rest would be scrambling to be the first out of the box (or out of the closet) to condemn Foley and smother Republican leadership in a tsunami of moral outrage for the attempted pre-election coverup.

Left Behind: The Video Game

Tue Jun 06, 2006 at 08:13:53 AM PDT

Some conservative Christian evangelicals hope that war, death and destruction - and a glimpse at a biblical future - are the recipe for market success for a new violent video game. Gamers can slaughter infidels who refuse to become born-again Christians or - if they're feeling particularly wicked - can choose instead to be soldiers loyal to the United Nations and the AntiChrist in the new video game based on the fiction book series Left Behind. The authors of the end-of-the-world book series are Jerry B. Jenkins and Tim LaHaye. LaHaye's wife, Beverly, is the founder and chairman of the board of the far-right Concerned Women for America.

Kossacks called out in CA-50. Game on!

Tue Mar 21, 2006 at 10:38:31 AM PDT

I just noticed that one of the front-runners among the Republicans, Howard Kaloogian, is currently having an "online telethon" on his web page (go ahead, slashdot it!), trying to match the netroots fundraising of Francine, "Our goal is to raise between $25,000 - $50,000 so we can match the liberal anti-war Democrat candidate, Francine Busby" and her "fundraising blitz." There is a little thermometer graphic and everything.

He wants a netroots fundraising contest, I say, GAME ON!! Let's go kossacks!

Alan Keyes, David Horowitz endorse CA-50 GOPers

Mon Mar 20, 2006 at 02:15:34 PM PDT

Alan Keyes, David Horowitz and many other national figures are throwing their weight behind some of the dozen GOP candidates desperately trying to differentiate themselves, mostly by out-right-winging each other. The results are truly frightening. A breakdown of the race, with polling and news, below.

Women as Incubators

Thu Mar 16, 2006 at 09:27:36 AM PDT

Don't believe anyone in the anti-choice crowd when they say abortion should be an option for a woman impregnated through rape or incest. They mouth that lie because most reasonable people are horrified at the notion that a woman would be forced to carry to term a baby so conceived, and they don't want to turn off reasonable voters.

But leave it to the Concerned Women of America to finally come clean and advocate that women be forced to incubate every fetus, no matter what: The "law should not permit the most innocent victim, an unborn child, to suffer by forfeiting his or her life because of the rapist's criminal act."

So never mind the poor woman -- she doesn't count. Birth that baby, woman! Don't be selfish and deprive that rapist of his sacred offspring!

CWA: Abortion Rights increase Maternal Mortality?

Tue Feb 28, 2006 at 08:16:29 AM PDT

An investigation by the Concerned Women for America (CWA) has come to a stunning conclusion: A United Nations report says that there is a direct correspondence between abortion rights and higher rates of maternal mortality.

"Pro-abortion activists frequently argue that abortion reduces the maternal mortality rate worldwide. However, a newly published United Nations (U.N.) report refutes this claim. . . . The data shows that those countries where abortions are performed most freely also have higher rates of maternal death."
If true, this would be stunning news. Luckily, I was able to arrange a brief interview with Wendy Wright, the president of Concerned Women for America, and I asked her about the findings.

***NOTE: This interview never happened. This diary is snark. Leave now if it's going to make you get all snitty.

Barbie v. Heterosexuality

Tue Jan 03, 2006 at 08:05:39 AM PDT

(via MoxieGrrrl.com)

This is awesome! The Religious Right continues to amaze me with their cajones. America Blog is reporting today that members of the religious right, specifically "the men at the Concerned Women for America," (which is humorous by itself) are saying that the small plastic doll/sexual icon is promoting bisexuality amongst 4 to 8 year old girls.

RW calls Barbie a 'tool' to confuse children

Tue Jan 03, 2006 at 06:58:35 AM PDT

While I was growing up I was never confused as to whether Barbie was male or female. In fact, I'd say that Barbie's projectiles were more likely to poke your eye out than a Red Ryder BB gun with a compass in the stock.

But apparently, the good clean living crowd at Concerned Women for America think that the folks who make Barbie are trying to blur the lines between the genders by indoctrinating little children. BTW, why does a group called Concerned Women for America have a director named Bob? Sounds like gender confusion to me.

The iconic Barbie Doll has become another tool for promoting gender confusion among children. On the Barbie Web site, www.Barbie.com, there is a poll that asks children their age and sex. The age choices are 4-8, but as Bob Knight, Director of CWA's Culture & Family Institute, notes children are given three options for their choice of gender.

Harriet Miers: 'Radical Feminist'

Thu Oct 27, 2005 at 12:51:34 AM PDT

Yes, that's right - 'radical feminist.' That's what a conservative evangelical group called SCOTUS nominee Harriet Miers yesterday.

Concerned Women for America, a group "for women and like-minded men, from all walks of life, to come together and restore the family to its traditional purpose," also called for Miers' nomination to be withdrawn.

More inside.

More Wingnut Questions About Miers

The extremist group, Concerned Women For America, has posted this list about questions they want answered about Harriet The Mysterious...and some news stories are about to bite Bush in a tender place:
