Colbert's Democralypse - Orange Satan, bring it home!

Fri Apr 18, 2008 at 09:08:12 AM PDT

Stephen Colbert has challenged voters to put their money where their mouth is in support of their candidate of choice in the Democratic Primary, to directly benefit school children of Pennsylvania.

When Stephen Colbert ran for president, supporters donated $66,000 to South Carolina classrooms in his honor. Do Senators Clinton and Obama have the keystones to do for the Keystone State what the Colbert Nation did for the Palmetto State? Let's find out.

A house divided

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 11:42:25 PM PDT

A house divided cannot stand.  This is a mantra which has been tried and true as far back as the conquest of Mesopotamia by Alexander the Great.  When the king died, the fighting started, the empire crumbled.  Bear with me , there's more below the fold.

40,000 schoolchildren in PA aren't bitter anymore

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 10:45:21 AM PDT

Stephen Colbert started a Pennsylvania Straw Poll fundraiser, Democralypse Now, the goal of which was to raise $66,001 dollars in donations to PA classrooms, on behalf of each candidate in the democratic primary race.  The candidate with the most donations in their name "wins" the straw poll, but more importantly, the children get money for books, AV equipment, and other educational tools.

Now, you may ask why these kids need a fundraiser to get educational supplies.  That is the wrong question.  The right one is: which candidate is winning the straw poll?

Celebrate the Democralypse with Stephen Colbert

Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 06:19:35 PM PDT

Would have imagined that this would have already been posted, but couldn't find it on a quick search, so here it goes - Stephen Colbert has found an amusing and actually useful activity for those who like to surf the internets (yes, I meant "internets" - isn't that what our great idiot-in-chief calls it?) and express their opinions on the Obama/Clinton Democralypse. As Colbert explains, anyone can go to the Donors Choose web site and "vote" for a candidate by donating money to Pennsylvania schools in honor of his/her preferred Democratic nominee.  Thought it was a good idea and worth a post (or re-post, if already posted).

Obama supporters raise $100,000 for PA schools!

Fri Apr 04, 2008 at 08:48:57 AM PDT

TravelerBill and I have written several diaries about Stephen Colbert's Pennsylvania Straw Poll fundraiser, Democralypse Now. It allows people to donate money to PA school classrooms in the name of Hillary Clinton or Barack Obama.  The candidate with the most donations in their name "wins" the straw poll.  The goal was $66,001 per candidate.

And now, two weeks later, Obama supporters have surpassed that to raise more than $100,000 for Pennsylvania schoolkids.

Is Clinton Winning The Democralypse? Updated Leaderboard

Tue Mar 25, 2008 at 09:33:27 AM PDT

Not by the typical standard by which we would normally judge such contests of course.  However, it has been revealed that most of her contributions have come from large non-caucus states that matter.  Whereas Obama's contributions have come from there (albeit in slightly lower numbers) and the rest of the country.

Obama Supporters-- WE DID IT!!!! (Updated x3 w/video)

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 01:20:01 PM PDT

We have successfully met Stephen Colbert's challenge!! For those that don't know, Stephen Colbert decided he was going to run for President last year, but only in South Carolina. Well, that didn't work out because the "real" candidates thought he'd actually affect the primary, but before his petition to be put on the ballot was denied, he had a challenge set up where his supporters donated money to South Carolina Schools. His supporters raised $66,000, and now that Colbert is on his way to Pennsylvania, he issued this challenge to Obama and Clinton supporters to match his supporters in donations to Pennsylvania schools. The competition started about a week ago.

(UPDATE) Leaderboard update on the Democralypse.  A Clinton Weekend Suprise?  (With Poll!)

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 09:32:49 AM PDT

UPDATE
At 4:25PM BHO Passed the $66,000 benchmark (And his bar was justifiably raised to $100K -Colbert's original goal!).  How much more can we give in the next 28 days?  Someone has to fund the classrooms that Clinton's supporters won't.  Why not show our true colors and make up the difference?

Since STEPHEN COLBERT'S Doritos Spicy/Sweet PENNSYLVANIA PRIMARY COVERAGE LIVE FROM CHILADELPHIA (The City of Brotherly Crunch) was announced on the last week both my good friend mffarrow and I have been providing periodic Leaderboards for the ""Democralypse Now PA Straw Poll"
