cross-posted @ This Week With Barack Obama

Barack was adopted into Crow Nation.  Below, Barack is arriving with his "adoptive parents" Hartford and Mary Black Eagle.  Obama was given the name of "Awe Kooda bilaxpak Kuuxshish" which means "One who helps people throughout the land."

Why we do this - we owe it to ourselves, and each other

Tue May 20, 2008 at 04:31:53 AM PDT

Most of us on this site know that this will be an incredibly important election.  As Democrats, we know that there are monumental challenges that lay ahead of us – such as ending the war in Iraq, restoring the reputation of America around the world, weaning ourselves off our dependence on diminishing  supplies of fossil fuels, trying to halt impending climate change crises, dealing with poverty and the loss of jobs domestically, and dealing with starvation and disease internationally.  We also know that this is a great opportunity, as the Republican Party appears to be as weak and vulnerable as it has ever been for the last several decades.

With the impending mathematical victory of Barack Obama in the race for the presidential nomination of the Democratic Party, and hopefully the end of the intraparty fighting and division that has marked this primary season, it’s a good time to remember what we’re all about as Democrats and Progressives.

IA, ME, NV, WA - Count Our Votes!

Mon May 19, 2008 at 02:43:30 PM PDT

(crossposted at The Dead Guy)

Four states are enabling the Clinton campaign in their subterfuge that "Hillary Clinton leads in the popular vote." The only four state parties which have not released hard counts broken down by candidate are: Iowa, Maine, Nevada, & Washington. These states hold party-run caucuses, and therefore are not required to release their counts to the public. However, every other caucus state party has released their data, and it is the secrecy of these four that allows the Clinton campaign to continue misleading the American people.

"Hey - Iowa, Maine, Nevada, & Washington - count our votes!"

The Bush Legacy: A Long, Hard and Deeply Disturbing Presidency

Sun May 18, 2008 at 06:53:07 PM PDT

I wrote this diary before, and per reader request am reposting with an update.

America is facing its deepest economic crisis since the Great Depression.

Unfortunately for us, no one in our government seems ready to acknowledge the problems we're facing.

Below is what America faces, and some prescription for it.  I have divided the diary into sections of the economy that are relevant to the discussion.

We should demand that all the local, state, and federal candidates address these issues.  I hope you find this diary informative.

Interviews with Portland Voters! (video)

Sun May 18, 2008 at 11:22:50 AM PDT

I am so proud of Portland.  Who we are, the progressive state we are.

I found this on OregonLive today...

"Portland’s suburbs and East Portland could prove key battlegrounds on Tuesday when votes are counted in the Oregon Democratic Primary. Will those areas go for Barack Obama or Hillary Clinton? Four Oregonian reporters — Michael Rollins, Joseph Rose, Esmeralda Bermudez and Casey Parks — recorded these interviews to try to give a sense of how residents are voting and what is driving their choices."

The marvels of anti-voter caucuses and primaries

Sun May 18, 2008 at 06:13:23 AM PDT

Wonderful news!

For the first time in Democratic Party history, we can completely wipe out the wishes of Democratic Party voters in two states. We already brag about how we fooled the system and got Obama more delegates in states he did not win.  Like Nevada.  He has also obtained more delegates than were awarded in the original caucus votes in many states.  Well done everyone!  Good way to win!  Without even needing the will of the caucus voters!

But now we can do even better than getting more delegates for Obama in states that went for Hillary Clinton!  Victory by using the caucus mechanics is not as good or substantial as taking away all of a state's voters by claiming that the rules tell us we have to do so!

Diversity As A Conservative Weapon

I'm sure some of you have started to notice that the conservatives often employ a woman or a minority to do a column like the one CB reports on here nowadays.

Bill O’Reilly and Sean Hannity: The Cancer of America

Fri May 16, 2008 at 07:04:43 PM PDT

Almost every civilization known to man fell not because of external forces like Al-Qaeda, but because of internal disharmony such as racial untruthfulness, religious misunderstandings, and cultural intolerance.  Internal disharmony is a cancer in any society that quietly and systematically erodes the fabric of any civilization and brings it down to its knees.  This is the cancer that O’Reilly and Hannity of Fox news represents.

McCain in Speech runs from Repubs, hints Bin-Laden is dead, & attacks Obama

Fri May 16, 2008 at 10:17:27 AM PDT

Whoaaaa!

A smorghosboard of stuff was thrown around by McCain and Bush at Obamaa. Do we still wonder who's the presumptive Dem nominee now?

As I watched McCain's speech yesterday morning in Columbus Ohio, I noticed that the McCain I heard, didn't sound like a Republican or McCain (even in the past)anymore.

While watching, I noticed "wow, this man is really afraid to call himself a Republican, and must of been scared to death, to see Obama and Edwards on the stage together Weds".

I guess with the GOP losing all those "special election" congressional seats, McCain "knows what's up".

Run! Run! Run, from the Republicans!

So why did McCain (no more than 2 hrs later)intertwine foreign policy & Bush again, by embroiling himself in the Bush, Obama, "Appeaser" nonsense. Republicans, just cant seem to seperate themselves from Bush, it seems. Lol.

It seems Republican's (and their assets), are acting really schizophrenic now. Even CNN (as pointed out here on Kos), can't even explain Pres. Bush's actions.

27 (superdelegates) is the magic number

Fri May 16, 2008 at 09:51:23 AM PDT

(cross posted at The Dead Guy)

On March 28, over at Chris Weigant's blog, Chris asked his readers to place their bets (in quatloos) when Clinton would drop out of the Presidential race. Well, I've done pretty well so far. I predicted that Obama would surpass Clinton in Superdelegates before the West Virginia primary (got it right) and several of my delegate totals from the primaries were darn close (I didn't do so well on my original delegate estimate for Indiana). Also, I was only 1 day off for the John Edwards endorsement of Obama. My final prediction is Clinton drops out on June 16, just 31 days from now.

27. This is the magic number.

John Kerry for U.S. Senate

Thu May 15, 2008 at 11:29:07 AM PDT

Yes, John Kerry is up for re-election in 2008. Senator Kerry, who is still hard at work in Congress, has been campaigning throughout his state at every opportunity, visiting more than 30 communities in the past six months:

"I'm all over the state," Kerry said. "Republicans are very good at misleading, making things up. ... I think the people know how hard I am fighting for the state."

"

More on John Kerry’s re-election bid below the fold.

AugustWest85's nominees for VP...

Wed May 14, 2008 at 09:55:29 AM PDT

..in the '08 Presidential election were chosen by a panel of politically minded neurons inside of Mr. West85's brain. After careful sorting, they are then tabulated by a select group of top accounting minded neurons located in a completely different section of Mr. West85's brain, with each process being protected by the most protective, some might say paranoid, minded neurons, which are positioned en masse throughout the cramped, dark and horribly tasting confines of Mr. West85's cranial cavity.
