Fitness Monday: Spring Into Fitness

Mon May 12, 2008 at 09:24:04 AM PDT

Welcome to Fitness Monday - a theoretically weekly series to inform and support kos-friend's fitness activities.

Remember, the more fit you are, the more canvassing you can do.  Finger fitness is important for phone-banking, and writing diaries too.

Fitness Monday - Hill Country Ride for AIDS report

Mon Apr 28, 2008 at 10:26:38 AM PDT

So, I've talked to lots of folks here about the Hill Country Ride for AIDS, and I thought y'all would like to know how it turned out.

Friday night, we had the kickoff dinner, which was fun. We check in or register, catch with people, and celebrate the Ride. Congressman Lloyd Doggett usually speaks at this dinner, but was not able to attend, because he broke his leg last weekend, ironicaly, while out bicycling. He did send a message, but I was sorry not to see him. We had some rain Friday night, but not a ton, and Saturday dawned clear & bright.

So, here's my "before the ride" picture

Fitness Monday on Tuesday

Tue Apr 01, 2008 at 05:56:44 AM PDT

Hi - I don't know what happened yesterday. I felt like I was sleepwalking all day, I knew something was missing but I just pushed it out of my mind.  Then, in the afternoon, I read an upsetting diary that I just should have stayed away from....... Anyway, I didn't want a whole week to go by without any Fitness talk, so here is my make-shift diary.

Fitness Monday: MS Challenge Walk

Mon Mar 24, 2008 at 08:30:49 AM PDT

Happy Monday everyone! I hope you all had a lovely Easter, if you celebrate it! (If not I hope you enjoyed an awesome weekend!)  I wanted to take the chance in this diary for Fitness Monday to write a little bit about a cause close to my heart. It’s also about why my Mom and I choose to walk 50 miles over three days every summer.

Just over five years ago, my Mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis. It was a scary time for my family. During a regular visit to her doctor, she off-handedly mentioned that she felt like she was slipping on the stairs at work. She said it felt like there was a puddle or something, and that she would feel like she was going to lose her balance.

It didn’t even make her grab the railing.
She knew that nobody else would have noticed it, and that she never actually slipped.
It just felt weird.

Fitness Monday: Miscellaneous Topics

Mon Mar 17, 2008 at 08:26:46 AM PDT

Come and share and learn and receive support for your Fitness efforts!  More fitness leads to the ability to knock on more doors and help elect more and better Democrats.

We have had some excellently written diaries lately.  Things are a little crazy around the Casa S, and I've been a bit headachey.  I'd like to open a couple topics for discussion and share a few links.  Also a report on my knees.

Fitness Monday: Improving your workout.

Fitness Monday: Patriotic Weight Training

Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 09:38:52 AM PDT

Last month, plf515, posted a Fitness Monday diary on weight training -- Men, women and muscles. It was a good introduction to the topic. I want to echo much of what was written there, but I wanted to expand on that diary, too. Last month's diary lacked any real discussion of how to structure a routine, so that will be my focus here.

Fitness Monday #8: Nutrition

Mon Feb 25, 2008 at 09:36:35 AM PDT

In my first Fitness Monday Diary I asked YOU to choose.  YOU the reader chose the topic of this, my second Fitness Monday diary.  And after three long weeks of mildly grueling research, at a staggering cost of $5.97; I bring you in this new hi-def Daily Kos diary on nutrition.

(I really need to stop reading Cheers & Jeers while watching BBC’s Planet Earth series, and yes I did spend $5 on a nutrition book I found at a tag sale.  The .97 is for the Twinkie brand, non-nutritional-food-like-substance I purchased and consumed immediately afterward.)

Come with me over the flip, where I impart my limited nutritional knowledge.

Fitness Monday 7: Swimming

Mon Feb 18, 2008 at 10:01:56 AM PDT

We all have different preferences when in comes to fruit as some of us prefer apples while others prefer oranges. Exercising is no different as  people are more likely to exercise when they are doing something they enjoy.

The weekly diary series on fitness with various hosts shall continue this week with some talk on my personal favorite form of fitness.

Swimming.

Jump with me, please

Fitness Monday 6: Men, women and muscles

Mon Feb 11, 2008 at 03:01:44 AM PDT

Morning all. This is the continuation of a group series on fitness

In today's diary I will offer some advice on muscles, weight lifting and so on.

Fitness Monday #5 (provisional series title)

Mon Feb 04, 2008 at 08:16:54 AM PDT

Morning all. I've been thinking about having a weekly diary on DailyKos about my running experiences and attempt to encourage other's to get off the couch and out the door. When I saw the Fitness Monday Diary last week, I chimed in, and was invited by anotherdemocrat to write the next one. When I started writing this diary, I realized that I had quite a bit to say to introduce myself, so I thought I would split things up. The first diary, to introduce myself, I posted yesterday here. This diary is more specifically about getting started with running.

In today's diary I will offer some advice on why to run, how to get started, what you need, and how to stick with it.

Fitness Monday #4 (provisional series title)

Mon Jan 28, 2008 at 09:03:27 AM PDT

Ok, I'm sure I'm not the only one who's New Year's resolution is to get in shape. (What's wrong with round?  Round is a shape.)

I have little in the way of fitness credentials.  I'm not a personal trainer or dietitian, etc.  In fact my job involves the health of plants much more than the health of people, and if I were in top shape I probably wouldn't be looking for support here.  However, I've played sports for as long as I can remember, I coach a high school rugby team, I've been in and out of shape several times, and I know what works for me; maybe it'll help you out too.  If I'm wrong I hope someone will correct me, that's part of why I'm here too; to learn.

Fitness on Kos?  I know it's a political blog, but one of the things I love about it is that its a community of people from all walks of life, with all different backgrounds, and expertises.  We've come together to improve our political system, our minds, & the world around us; why not join me after the flip and improve our bodies too.

Fitness Monday #3 (provisional series title)

Mon Jan 21, 2008 at 09:12:46 AM PDT

My fitness goal is to be fit enough to do all the other things I want to do.

Fitness is more than a workout:  it is comprehensive and includes the physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual.  Within the physical, it includes strength, endurance, flexibility, aerobic, and muscles, and more.

Join us today (and every Monday) for a general fitness sharing and support.

Also, please vote on the time of day you would like to see this posted.  Monday during the day was last week's poll winner, and I am hoping to narrow that down a bit more.  I am posting a bit later today, due to the holiday.

Fitness Monday (provisional series title)

Mon Jan 14, 2008 at 12:23:41 PM PDT

So, last week, I wrote a diary about health & fitness that got the most responses of any diary I have ever written. Obviously this is something people are interested in. And something people who support different candidates can agree on.
