What's up with Amy Klobuchar's new ad? (MN-Sen)
Wed Jul 12, 2006 at 01:44:58 PM PDT
Now that Ford Bell has dropped out of the MN Senate race, Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar has clear sailing to the nomination. She is considered the heavy favorite over Bush lap-dog Congressman Mark Kennedy (MN-6). She has a new ad out that her campaign is trying to raise cash to run. I got an email from her campaign manager, Ben Goldfarb, with a link to the ad and the proverbial request for cash. I just saw the ad on TV last night.
Ford Bell Drops from US Senate Race in MN
Tue Jul 11, 2006 at 02:16:18 PM PDT
Ford Bell, challenger for the DFL (Democratic party in Minnesota) primary for U.S. Senate has pulled out of the race conceding to Hennepin County Attorney Amy Klobuchar. Klobuchar won the endorsement by a large margin over Bell last month at the State DFL convention. Bell skipped the convention deciding to go right to the primary.
Klobuchar faces Republican U.S. Rep Mark Kennedy in the November general election in what many are rating as a toss-up. However Klobuchar has led in many recent polls.
Bell's statement is below.
Let's Talk About: MN-Sen
Sat May 13, 2006 at 05:09:27 PM PDT
I started this
series last month. I wanted to make this diary on the Minnesota Senate race because for such a high-profile race, I haven't heard a lot of talk about this one. I haven't had the time to be around here as much as I once was, so if I've missed diaries on this, I'm sorry.
MN-Sen and MN-Gov: Geographic Strategies for Democratic Victory
Sun Apr 02, 2006 at 09:51:35 PM PDT
This diary is strictly for the hard-core election junkies who share my enthusiasm for the horse race. I am a well-versed student in Minnesota politics who has devised somewhat different strategies for victory for the various candidates in Minnesota's Senate and gubernatorial races that are only seven months away. I e-mailed several of the campaigns with my formulas. They may have studied them and they may have tossed them in the trash. I didn't hear back from any of them so I don't know. Whatever the case, I hope that Kossacks following these races find my strategies interesting or possibly even helpful in turning Minnesota a double shade of blue this November....
Minnesota DFL Caucus Reminder (with Poll)
Mon Mar 06, 2006 at 12:43:26 PM PDT
The Minnesota DFL caucuses are Tuesday March 7 at 7:00 p.m. To find the location of your precinct caucus site, go
here.
If you have never been to one of these, you should go. We've got a hotly contested Governor's race and a Senate race. If nothing else, you can go and spend a couple of hours with people who generally share your political beliefs. Kind of like DailyKos, except with really people having actual conversations. If nothing else, you can see which of your neighbors are Democrats.
I don't think the Senate race is in doubt but the Governor's race should be a free for all. Here is my poll:
Training for Minnesota caucuses
Sun Mar 05, 2006 at 08:54:58 AM PDT
(A visitor's view of Peace in the Precincts' MN strategy. Cross posted at Happening-Here)
Yesterday I got a look at an ambitious peace movement organizing project that aims to influence war and peace discussion through the caucus system used by political parties in Minnesota.
The local round of the caucuses that choose delegates to party conventions and propose candidate endorsements takes place next Tuesday, March 7. St. Paul activists held a session in a public library basement to get people primed to carry a peace message at those meetings.

MN-Sen: Dems gain ground
Tue Feb 28, 2006 at 09:01:50 AM PDT
Rasmussen. 2/14. Likely voters. MoE 4.5% (1/16 results)
Klobuchar (D) 45 (43)
Kennedy (R) 42 (42)
Bell (D) 43 (36)
Kennedy (R) 40 (41)
Rasmussen has polled this race three times, and Kennedy hasn't been able to break 42 percent in any of them. A ceiling?
Fighting the DSCC in MN: Ford Bell for Senate
Tue Feb 14, 2006 at 12:39:41 PM PDT
I'm Ford Bell, and I'm running for the DFL (Democratic) nomination for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.
In the words of President Clinton, I feel Paul Hackett's pain today. I very much admire Maj. Hackett, and think he would have been a great nominee.
My campaign has been about issues such as withdrawal from Iraq and universal single-payer health care.
Until recently, I was running against Republican Mark Kennedy, and Amy Klobuchar and Patty Wetterling, both DFL'ers.
Until Chuck Schumer and the DSCC butted in.
MN-SEN: Bell's Speech Blasts Washington Establishment
Sat Jan 21, 2006 at 05:34:52 PM PDT
Ford Bell gave one helluva speech at the DFL Central Committee Meeting today. The speech is both powerful and provoking. Bell points out one of the deepest flaws in the Democratic Party: Washington Insiders trying to tell the grassroots what is right for them:
This race has changed dramatically during the past few days. The junior Senator from New York, Chuck Schumer, has sent a clear message to you, the grassroots of the DFL, that you don't matter in the process of choosing a U.S. Senator.
Chuck Schumer is telling you, the heart and soul of the DFL, to sit down, shut up, we're from Washington and we know best.
I say here today, no. I reject this attempt to bulldoze over our party's strength. Our strength is diversity and debate, then consensus.
Big news in the Minnesota senate race
Fri Jan 20, 2006 at 11:16:28 AM PDT
Child safety advocate Patty Wetterling is going to withdrawal from the race today at 2pm central.
http://news.minnesota.publicradio.org/...
This leaves Amy Klobuchar, and Ford Bell as the two announced candidates. It is speculated that Patty Wetterling is leaving due to lack of fundraising. Amy Klobuchar has been killing both Wetterling and Bell in raising cash. I will guess that Wetterling's fourth quarter numbers were not to impressive. Blogs are a buzz on what Patty will do next. Some say a run in MN-06 that she narrowly lost in 2004. Some say she might be joining up with an announced gubernatorial candidate as lieutenant governor.

Minnesota's own Hackett vs Brown? But not really....
Wed Dec 14, 2005 at 05:49:51 PM PDT
For some reason it seems to me that the Minnesota Senate race is not getting as much attention as it deserves. It is an open seat in a purple state that is vital to whom ever wins it. So I thought I would post some info and commentary on recent events. More below!
Ford Bell: Please Join Me Tomorrow to Honor Vets
Thu Dec 08, 2005 at 03:21:44 PM PDT
I'm Ford Bell, candidate for the DFL nomination for U.S. Senate in Minnesota.
First I have some shameless flattery, then below, a shameless plug.
I've been lurking for a while, and I am continually impressed by the brains and passion of this community, and on such a variety of issues.
I'm hooked.
LIVE blogging: Energy, gas gouging, and the MN Senate race
Tue Nov 15, 2005 at 12:04:11 PM PDT
I'm very excited to be posting my first diary here on DailyKos! I read DailyKos all the time, and I appreciate all of the thoughtful debate, the innovative new ideas, and the enthusiasm that you all provide here. I look forward to posting my thoughts here from time to time between now and November 2006 -- and thereafter as a newly elected U.S. Senator!
Today, I'd like to tell you briefly why I'm running for the Senate, share some of my ideas about the kind of comprehensive energy plan we need in America, and last but not least, take some time to respond to any comments and questions you may have.
