Gary, Indiana revisited
Thu May 08, 2008 at 02:00:52 AM PDT
It was about 10:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Savings time when Indiana was called for Sen. Clinton. She won according to most of the MSM 51% to 49% or about 22,000 votes over her Democratic rival Sen. Obama.
Thank you Gary, Indiana.

I did one of those Good-bye Diaries back in September 2007. But I was wrong to do so. What has convinced me that I was wrong? The message of Barack Obama. Yesterday I served as a Legal Observer for Obama for America in Gary, Indiana. I want to share my thoughts and observations with you.
Gary, IN Open Thread - could it happen?

Right now, nearly all votes in Indiana are counted except for most from Lake County (Gary, IN and surrounding communities). The few other counties with any uncounted votes will probably cancel each other out, in my semi-informed view.
As shown in the results thread, Clinton now leads by under 21,000 votes. Lake County is now 28% counted, and Obama took those precincts by a 3:1 margin (75%-25%), for an 18,500 vote pickup.
Michelle Obama at Gary, Indiana: Photos and News
Mon May 05, 2008 at 10:27:40 PM PDT
So I was able to attend tonight's rally at West Side High in Gary, Indiana and heard Michelle Obama give a rousing speech. I must say that I was very impressed with her and came away with the feeling that she's the real orator in the family. Her speech hit all the right notes: the absurdity of the media's elitism charges, the substance behind the change that Senator Obama is proposing, and their very impressive story of overcoming the odds through hard work to achieve what they have.
I hope Michelle's stump gets more play in the future as it really put to rest all of these stupid narratives floating around.

Indiana mayor makes racially-charged accusation against Obama camp
Thu Apr 24, 2008 at 02:07:47 PM PDT
On the surface, it is an innocent, almost feel-good story:
Gary officials said they were busing in hundreds of high schools students to vote in advance of the May 6 primary as a learning experience.
The Times of Northwest Indiana reported today that Gary high school students are culminating a unit of civics education by participating in early voting in Lake County, Indiana.
But thanks to the comments of Mayor Thomas McDermott, Jr. of Hammond, Indiana about the experience -- a mayor who was re-elected in a city of 100,000 with only 4,500 votes last November -- the story takes an ugly, seemingly racist twist.
