Take That, You Christofascisti!

Tue Jan 08, 2008 at 01:48:58 PM PDT

Boy howdy, I get mighty peevish about Congressional reps hijacking American history in support of an ugly agenda. If you haven't read these, please do: [updated w/action item] STOP HOUSE RESOLUTION 888 ! ;Think the "Christmas Resolution" was Bad? Check Out H. Res. 888 .  Wasting Congressional session time on outright lies and distortions in support of the Religiously wRong is, well, religiously wrong!

Lives are destroyed and taxpayers' money flushed away because Congress can't get their act together, and yet these yahoos  have no problem lallygagging along with tripe like this stinker.   They oughta' be ashamed.

Please note I said "peevish" above.  I've been working on restraining the mouth foaming, spittle spewing rage I really feel on discovering some new atrocity by elected officials.   In this spirit of real Christian forbearance, I have written an appropriate response to the legislators who have sponsored H.R. 888.   Feel free to take it as your own and help spread the joy!

[updated w/action item] STOP HOUSE RESOLUTION 888 !

UPDATE - see ACTION ITEM at end of post. I've selected 4 of Chris Rodda's debunkings of some of the lies in H. Res 888 so you can send them to your political representatives. I am working on a cover letter, so if anyone can whip one off quick please post as a comment and I'll add that.

Your letter to your rep. [here's a contact link] will serve as a warning and public notice - that you have alerted your representative to the falsified history in H. Res 888 and expect that she/he will therefore vote against the resolution. Also, H. Res 888 is currently in Henry Waxman's Subcommittee, so if you have a rep. on the committee please email them [ list of reps on the committee ]

If you send a letter to your rep. I have one request - could you please either email a copy of your letter to me, at my Talk To Action address, or simply post it here ? And, if you're interested in working on this issue please let me know.

Best, Bruce Wilson

Think the "Christmas resolution" was bad? Check Out H. Res. 888

This is the first time I've posted anything here, so I should introduce myself. I am the Senior Research Director for the Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and the author of Liars For Jesus: The Religious Right's Alternate Version of American History.

That said, what I am posting here involves an ACTION ITEM.

While the recent House of Representatives "Christmas resolution" was being covered and discussed ad nauseum on countless websites, blogs, and elsewhere, another far more heinous resolution was introduced, one which, unbelievably, does not appear to have been noticed by anyone. On December 18, 2007, Congressman Randy Forbes (R-VA) introduced H. Res. 888, a resolution "Affirming the rich spiritual and religious history of our Nation's founding and subsequent history and expressing support for designation of the first week in May as 'American Religious History Week' for the appreciation of and education on America's history of religious faith."
