I Would Like To Ride The Bus
Thu Jul 17, 2008 at 05:29:56 AM PDT
I am just aching to park and ride. But, you see, I can't.
And it's not for a lack of trying. It's because the public transit system in my city is underfunded and overextended; it's actually cutting routes and upping rates!
Still, in hope, I went ahead and checked the maps. Because, as a city employee I can still ride for free as a perk. Excellent, right? Except buses don't run on my side of town, or near my employer.
Democratic National Convention Help!
Tue Jul 15, 2008 at 08:44:16 PM PDT
Hello All,
I am going to be in Denver the weekend before the Democratic National Convention. I am going back home on Monday night. I would LOVE to participate in something convention related while there. My problem is, I cannot find any schedule of events for the convention. Yes, I have been to the website. (http://demconvention.com/events/) Can someone help me out?
Brittani (An Update)
Tue Jul 08, 2008 at 04:23:25 PM PDT
Some of you will remember our niece Brittani, who was diagnosed with Ewing's Sarcoma when she was 15. Brittani underwent chemotherapy to kill off the cancer, which worked. Unfortunately, the chemo also killed off her lungs. Brittani had a double lung transplant in May 2007 to correct this.
For the first year after the surgery, things went fairly well. She went diabetic, then not diabetic, then back to being diabetic, which she remains. For most of the year following her recovery, Brittani got to act like a normal kid, albeit an extra careful one, since her immune system is suppressed by the anti-rejection drugs she must take.
But in the past few months, she has started to lose lung function.
1,000 Miles for Sam
Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 10:50:54 PM PDT
On Wednesday, July 2nd, 2008 my godson Sam was critically injured in a fall; a fall that has almost taken his life several times now. Sam is 10 years old.
I should give you some context by way of back story...I love to ride motorcycles. I find every excuse possible to ride my motorcycle. I live 1 mile from work and sometimes it can take me two hours to get home...but only on the days that I ride in. When I find a girlfriend that will hopefully end up as my wife one of the qualifiers will be the motorcycle test; 70% or better...otherwise she will flunk the entire quarter and have to take the class again. The motorcycle test will comprise 50% of the letter grade...you get the idea.

Just when you think...
Mon Jul 07, 2008 at 10:51:21 AM PDT
you have people figured out, someone goes and does something like this.
It's an amazing story about a family that, literally, puts their money where their mouths are when it comes to giving to the community.
They got everything right, from Hannah's observation that if the guy in the Mercedes chose a less expensive car, then the guy on the curb could have a sandwich to voluntarily surrendering their consumerist lifestyle - it lets you know the power of one voice, one family and one gesture.
The State of Montana
Thu Jun 26, 2008 at 12:16:37 PM PDT
Montana has been in the national spotlight many times recently. First the election of Jon Tester who (along with Jim Webb) swayed the United States Senate, then this year because of the June 3rd Presidential Primary. With these two Democratic victories in the big sky state, the question remains, does Montana truly remain a red state, or are some cracks forming through which new candidates might get an opportunity to make change?
Can I delete a comment of mine?
Thu Jun 19, 2008 at 12:23:29 PM PDT
Hi,
sorry about the procedural post, but the FAQ is down and I can't seem to find the info elsewhere.
Can I delete a comment that I myself made after I have made it ?
I thought I could, but I can't seem to find a way to do it.
I may be mixing up some other blogging software.
Suggestions very welcome
Let's Show Iowa and Indiana We Can Be the Change We've Been Waiting For
Tue Jun 10, 2008 at 12:00:44 AM PDT
If there's one thing I've learned from listening to Barack Obama, it's that "we are the change we have been waiting for" is the gods' honest truth. Do we want to change the response to disasters like this? Our government is limp; we can do better.
I just created an "Iowa and Indiana Flood Support" group on MyBO; as soon as it's approved and active, I'll post an update. In the meantime, if there's anyone willing to volunteer to either physically help or help come up with ideas for what people who live far away can do to help, please comment.
Yes We Can.
Well I kept my word and did it.
Sat Jun 07, 2008 at 12:25:37 PM PDT
Let me start by saying I am, and have been for months, an ardent supporter of Senator Obama's candidacy.
I said that if and when Senator Clinton ended her candidacy and endorsed our nominee, Senator Barack Obama, I would donate to her campaign so that she could retire her debt. Just a few moments ago I did. I didn't give much, but I don't have particularly much to give.
Let's help her out. Her campaign owes money to a lot of people who don't need bad debt hanging over them (small vendors and so forth) and if Senator Clinton is to have another shot at this in the future, she cannot afford to be remembered as having shafted so many of those vendors. I want her to succeed in the party in the future, so let's help her out.
Besides, if a lot of us do it today, it'll be obvious that it came from Obama supporters who want the party united.
On Becoming an Informed Observer
Thu Jun 05, 2008 at 08:14:56 AM PDT
I've recently run directly into some staunch antio-Obama sentiment coupled with extreme ignorance of the news, current events, and actual positions (I live in Georgia). His healthcare plan is referred to as "nearly communism," he's an "idealist," and "there's no way he'll win." All of these positions clearly violate my stance, and I've been having trouble articulating rebuttals in a manner that states Barack's positions clearly, and disarms these idiotic notions.
I can't go to netroots nation, buy my registration?
Fri May 30, 2008 at 12:24:30 PM PDT
Hi everybody, I wouldn't put this up lightly, as I know this isn't Craigslist, but it's a special case.
I can't go to Netroots Nation. I thought that I could, and indeed was quite stoked about going. However, life has a way of interrupting sometimes, so I will need to live vicariously through everybody else. I also need to sell my registration.
I truly, truly wish that I could be there, the first yearly kos was amazing, and unfortunately I had to cancel out of last years at the last minute too.
Help Obama in Puerto Rico! (Updated)
Mon May 26, 2008 at 05:09:47 PM PDT
It appears that the Obama Team could use help on two fronts in Puerto Rico.
Let's keep the delegate count close to the curb.
I know it's late in the game, but it's a pretty tight race and Barack and Michelle went down there for more than just Mai Tais.
So ready, set, help out!
My thoughts, my feelings, condensed yet unfettered...
Mon May 26, 2008 at 01:51:18 PM PDT
For some reason I was compelled to write a short passage. I have been overwhelmed as of late with thoughts and questions. I have become increasingly philosophical and for that, as a fourteen year old submerged in thought I have written this:

HELP!!!! ASAP, please!
Thu May 08, 2008 at 12:14:33 PM PDT
As you can tell, I still have a problem. Because of Wachovia, we still have a problem. Unfortunately, we just found out yesterday that the corporate office of Joe's company did not get the direct deposit form for the new bank account until after it sent the payroll information in & his paycheck this week is not scheduled to go into the new account now until next week. We are currently overdrawn at Wachovia by $465.25 because they are still trying to bounce checks for the same 2 companies that I have already complained about twice.
Possibly better way to help Burma's cyclone victims
Thu May 08, 2008 at 07:43:30 AM PDT
Even though I've been a regular visitor here, I've never posted my own diary. However, as I see a lot of people wanting to help and the traditional way of helping (red cross, doctors without borders etc) are being hindered by the junta's red tape, stubboness, and paranoia, I'd like to suggest an alternative way of helping.
As a Burmese being in the States for 14 years, I believe I have a better understanding of what is happening. As is the case of 2005 tsunami, the military government is extremely weary of outsiders, regardless of the purpose of the visit. It (the ruthless regime machine) is also afraid of any single reporter that would return home and plaster a couple of pictures on the front page of Newsweek or Time magazine.
