Alan Colmes asks Hannity: What's not true about this? w/video
Sat Jul 26, 2008 at 08:14:23 PM PDT
I searched yesterday's diaries and didn't find this so I thought some of you might be interested in enjoying a little comic relief. I was skipping around the channels on Friday and happened to land on this. It's funny, yet hauntingly appropriate (in my opinion only of course)
KS-HD-15: Hilarious xkcd homage to raise $$

Sean Tevis is running for state representative in Kansas, and he's used an incredibly funny homage to webcomic xkcd to get his name out online. And boy, has it worked!

The Right to Self Defense

For much of my life, I've been a strong advocate of gun control in America. I note that very few people in America hunt for food on a regular basis, and I don't believe that hunting for humans is a proper expression of the second amendment (and to wit, I know of almost no example of the gun murder of another human being where such murder expanded the hunter's food supply).
However, today, in purple Wisconsin, I read an article that made me question my previous gun control stance.

"The whole idea of god is absurd. If anything, '2001' shows that what some people call 'god' is simply an acceptable term for their ignorance. What they don't understand, they call 'god' . . . . I chose to do Dr. Clarke's story as a film because it highlights a critical factor necessary for human evolution; that is, beyond our present condition. This film is a rejection of the notion that there is a god; isn't that obvious?"

McCain too "unlucky" to be president?
Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 11:58:21 PM PDT
Maybe so, maybe so. This article describes the oil spill and hurricane down South as being 'just another example of John McCain's bad luck.'

Encounters with a Maverick – Covering John McCain on the Campaign Trail
Fri Jul 25, 2008 at 12:52:39 PM PDT
You should read this diary (please!!!!), and this excerpt will tell you why:
You know what, I think you – yeah, you, reader! – are a bit of a maverick yourself. I see that twinkle in your eye. That little impish "let’s bomb the shit out of Iran" smirk tugging at your lips! On a visceral level, you connect with Maverick McCain. He’s like the guy in the leather jacket at the party – with the slick pompadour, rolling his own cigarette. You know you shouldn’t go out with him, but you do anyway, just for the thrill of bucking society with such a devilish rake.
You want to read this diary, you MAVERICK!

Somebody sent me the plans for the upcoming George W. Bush Presidential Library... boy, they sure sound official!
Compliments of the Southwest Missouri Libertarian Party.
The George W Bush Presidential Library is now in the planning stages.
The Library will include:
The Hurricane Katrina Room,
which is still under construction.
The Alberto Gonzales Room,
where you won't be able to remember anything.
The Texas Air National Guard Room,
where you don't even have to show up.

Is McCain's Ship Taking on Water?

Josh Marshall had a great find tonight at the JohnMcCain.com store: the McCain Door Mat! ($70)
I'm so happy he sent me there, because within a few moments I alighted on this special nugget of McCainy goodness.
Some friendly advise because I'm worried about you, Norm
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 03:31:44 PM PDT
Norm. I'm seriously concerned about your well-being and your family. I realize you're barely making it financially as a Senator and the stress of your reelection campaign has got to be giving you an ulcer. It's just not fair that a Senator such as you should be living in the dive basement of a Replubican political operative and yet have to work so hard in such a anti-Replubican reelection environment.
But I have an idea. You should become a lobbyist.

BREAKING: McCain To Step Aside For ...
Wed Jul 23, 2008 at 01:46:11 PM PDT
You know about the stimulus-response rule? Apply a stimulus, get a response. So, how has the GOP attempt to frame the debate been going?
Stimulus: Tell America that Obama hasn't been to Iraq, and doesn't know what's going on in the Middle East.
Response: Obama visits Iraq, and their prime minister endorses his idea for troop withdrawl timetable.
Stimulus: Tell America that the "liberal" media is treating McCain unfairly.
Response: Media looks at McCain, and watches him make gaffes.
Stimulus: Tell America that Bush's call for drilling has brought down the price of oil, and schedule a photo-op on an oil rigger.
Response: What else? An oil spill.
This begs the question: "Is the McCain Campaign cursed?"
We Democrats are getting confident. How can Obama possibly lose? Just wait until the debates!
The M$M, however, having lots of rating advertising to lose with a blowout, is in a panic. They need a horse race. Fortunately, they have a plan, and the money to pull it off. Want to know how?

Howard Dean and me (updated w/NN gossip)
Mon Jul 21, 2008 at 10:23:14 AM PDT
I got a few requests to repost this since I published it at 11:30 p.m. Friday night. I'm updating with some new details about my experience at Netroots Nation.
I arrived at Austin Thursday just in time to hear Howard Dean speak outside the convention center.
It was one of those moments in life where timing is perfect.
In many ways Howard Dean's work as a presidential candidate and then as DNC chairman got me there.
