Gary, Indiana revisited

Thu May 08, 2008 at 02:00:52 AM PDT

It was about 10:30 p.m. Pacific Daylight Savings time when Indiana was called for Sen. Clinton. She won according to most of the MSM 51% to 49% or about 22,000 votes over her Democratic rival Sen. Obama.

Post-Clinton Traumatic Stress Disorder

Tue May 06, 2008 at 02:20:46 PM PDT

In responding to thejoshuablog on Talking Points Memo, I realized something had been fomenting for a while, and may be threadworthy itself.  The idea that the mass hysteria we are all suffering through might actually be a disease.  It is one of the few things that would explain the statistics that he outlined in his post.

CBS Poll: Support for Obama

Why this Green would vote for a moderate Obama.

Thu May 01, 2008 at 05:06:03 PM PDT

PREFACE:
I've been a Green Party member nearly my entire adult life. Frankly, there's never been a Democratic candidate for President that I've found appealing. (In fact, it was the rise of Bill Clinton, coupled with Democrats' adoration of him, that actually made register Green in 1992.) Each time there was a Democrat that I actually liked and would consider voting for (who actually shared many of the views I have), he lost to a candidate that I considered inferior in the primaries: Brown instead of Clinton 1992, Bradley instead of Gore in 2000, and Dr. Dean instead of Kerry in 2004. Each time I've ended up either not voting, or voting for Ralph Nader. However, HOPEfully not this time...

WV Sec of State Willfully Disenfranchising Independents

Wed Apr 30, 2008 at 08:19:36 AM PDT

This is OUTRAGEOUS

The West Virginia Secretary of State's office and county election offices in the state are refusing to tell independent ("no party choice") voters arriving to early vote at the state's 55 voting locations that they are entitled to vote in the Democratic primary, stating that they are forbidden to do so by law.

"The Obama campaign will lose thousands of votes during early voting if this situation isn't corrected quickly," Victoria Baker, a former Republican who is an Obama supporter in Huntington, WV, said Sunday. "The Secretary of State's position is not supported by the law," according to Roy D. (Don) Baker, a West Virginia lawyer familiar with the situation. "It is wrong," he said. Mr. Baker, a Democrat, is also an Obama supporter and Ms. Baker's husband

156,199 West Virginians are registered as independents eligible to vote in West Virginia's May 13 primary according to figures released over the weekend by the Secretary of State's office. That represents 13.2% of all registered voters in the state. These figures include voters who registered before last week's April 22nd registration deadline in the state. Early voting began April 23 and ends May 10.

I officially left the Democratic Party

Tue Apr 29, 2008 at 09:51:29 AM PDT

I just sent in my change of registration - I am now an Independent/Unaffiliated voter, or as we put it in New York, "No Party."

I have to tell you all, it feels liberating, to send a message in my own small way that I'll no longer stand with a party that allows one of its major candidates to pit white working-class people against black people.  It feels good to no longer have a part in a party whose Superdelegates sit on the sideline and allow the probable nominee get battered.  I feel relieved that I no longer have to sit in a party that retains power-brokers who think blurring the lines with Republicans is a way to victory.

By the way, at this point I'll tell you that Rock the Vote is such a great tool, and makes changing registration incredibly easy.

Will African Americans support Clinton in November?  I say...

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 09:58:16 PM PDT

After the win in Iowa ( I knocked on more doors than I care to count) I never dreamed it would go this long.  What I now find myself wondering is this: If Hillary Clinton does win this thing, what will happen to the three groups that Obama has won with?

NY Times Thursday: Obliterating Hillary's Electability Meme

Wed Apr 23, 2008 at 09:13:54 PM PDT

NY Times Thursday blows a Trailer Park Sized hole in the Clintons' electability fantasy.

Exit polling and independent political analysts offer evidence that Mr. Obama could do just as well as Mrs. Clinton among blocs of voters with whom he now runs behind. Obama advisers say he also appears well-positioned to win swing states and believe he would have a strong shot at winning traditional Republican states like Virginia.

According to surveys of Pennsylvania voters leaving the polls on Tuesday, Mr. Obama would draw majorities of support from lower-income voters and less-educated ones — just as Mrs. Clinton would against Mr. McCain, even though those voters have favored her over Mr. Obama in the primaries.

And national polls suggest Mr. Obama would also do slightly better among groups that have gravitated to Republican in the past, like men, the more affluent and independents, while she would do slightly better among women.

Why is Hillary weak with Educated Voters? Men? Blacks? Western State Democrats? Young Voters???  Fun Decision-Tree:

Golden opportunity for our party, country

Tue Apr 15, 2008 at 05:26:21 AM PDT

The continuing brouhaha over Barack Obama's inarticulate attempt to explain differences in regional politics is, to many of us, a depressing reminder of how our political discourse has gone off track.   However, while Obama's comments have provided fodder for the outrage machine to be used for whatever political gain may be garnered in the short term, they also offer the party and country a wonderful opportunity to discuss how politics in our Country has been conducted over the last several decades and a blueprint for how to transition to a more effective politics.

McCain and the Left.

Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 06:44:37 PM PDT

Presumptive Republican Presidential candidate John S. McCain's problems with his party's conservative base are very well documented.  They arise from his partnerships with several Senators of the opposing party in controversial matters that often produced results counter to the GOP's desires.  With that in mind, could this prove to be beneficial with disaffected Democrats and Independents come November?

Independents Are Not Your Enemy

Thu Apr 03, 2008 at 05:02:05 PM PDT

I am an independent voter.  I am lucky in that sense because I live in a state (Wisconsin) with an open primary, so my not being affiliated with either party did not preclude me from voting in this primary.  My parents, also, are independents, even though my dad is part of union and worked at an automotive factory that closed down this year.  He voted against George W. Bush both times and pretty consistently for Democrats for president, but says that he prefers Republicans as governor.

Although many of you will probably agree, there is nothing wrong with that.

On not being a Democrat

Sun Mar 30, 2008 at 03:44:00 AM PDT

I'm not a Democrat.  I'm a reformed Republican who's now an Independent.  I'm the voter the Democrats need to lure in, along with millions of others like me.  We're a growing number.  We can't be Republicans any more for reasons I won't even bother to enumerate here because it's so obvious to those who post and read on this site.  We can't be Democrats, either.  The reasons for that are myriad.  My daughter, who is gay, won't be a Democrat because of gun control issues.  She lives in New Jersey, and calls at least once a week to rant about the backward gun laws.  My son can't be a Democrat because he's too socially conservative.  That's not to say that he has a problem with gay people or people of color.  He just thinks the Democrats aren't practical when it comes to some of their social policies.  I can't be a Democrat because as a political party, I don't think they're any better than the Republicans.

Pennsylvania continues the trend

Democratic registrations have been on a rapid rise since this campaign has begin.

It's the Independents, Stupid!

Sun Mar 09, 2008 at 02:40:56 PM PDT

I’m gonna keep this short and sweet.  There is a talking point being floated by the Clinton campaign that Tim Russert called "a strong argument" today.  It’s meant to be a justification for the superdelegates to overturn the will of the people and hand the nomination to Hillary even if Obama wins among elected pledged delegates.  Please recommend this diary if you agree with me that it is actually an incredibly flawed argument.

Obama Likely to Be Robbed of Presidential Nomination

Sun Mar 09, 2008 at 12:46:07 AM PDT

There will be one helluva lot of pissed off compadres when this happens.

This is when many Democratic Party members will choose to make a statment to the Terry McAuliffe's and the Rahm Emmanuels, that the DLC is out of touch with the American people.

The Democratic Party has for decades essentially ignored the left, because, as Lawrence O' Donnell said in the Nader documentary "An Unreasonable Man,"

Hillary Clinton 's Smear Campaign, Flip-Flop and New Polls

Tue Mar 04, 2008 at 07:34:50 AM PDT

According to the AP report and MSNBC  the language in the memo is Canadian TV report and it’s not a direct quote. Also  Hillary Clinton camp urged the Canadian TV to ignore the Obama’s anti NAFTA  rhetoric  and focus on the negative things about obama. As usual this is the way Hillary Clinton has been smearing against obama’s position on NAFTA and everything else . First she planted the question in Iowa. Then she Flip-Flopped on NAFTA while Bill Clinton Flip-Flopped on Iraq War.

A Buddhist Holy Man predicts that Hillary will never become US President

Mon Mar 03, 2008 at 05:24:38 PM PDT

A Buddhist Holy Man predicts that Hillary will never become US President . Therefore whoever is against Hillary Clinton can start celebrating from now on wards. Tell your friends , neighbors and organize parties and festivals , anything can make you happy America. All anti war , anti Hillary activists and whoever supports Obama , Edwards, and other candidates start organizing parties all over the country and around the world. This monk seems to guarantee 10000% , who made many predictions in the past and which became real in the past many many times.
