Honor? Integrity? Where Art Thou?

Mon Dec 17, 2007 at 04:28:29 AM PDT

Hey y'all, remember back in 1999 and 2000 when then Governor Bush promised to restore "honor and integrity" to the White House?  Yunno, after all those years of trashy Clinton behavior that ran the gambit from private sexual activities to non-existent law breaking covering a variety of invented scandals all "uncovered" on your tax dollar?

President 24%'s track record in the honor and integrity department is let's say a little less than stellar. The latest travesty? Bringing a sure-fire Presidential Medal of Freeeeeedom winner, Paul Wolfowitz, back into the Executive Branch.  Not enough travesty?  How about destroying evidence of CIA torture? Or the Rove/Bolton Contempt of Congress citations?  Or the Justice Department's refusal to enforce those citations?

The hits, they just keep acomin'.

Let's take a walk down nightmare memory lane, shall we?

Alberto Gonzales' Greatest Hits

Tue Aug 28, 2007 at 09:01:04 AM PDT

Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may have his announced his resignation, but his wrongdoing – and his words – live on.  Alternately comically feeble and hilariously ham-handed, Gonzales' pathetic attempts to deceive, dissemble and literally forget his way out of the U.S. attorneys scandal, the NSA domestic surveillance imbroglio, the White House war on habeas corpus and even the outing of covert CIA operative Valerie Plame approached Bush-level rhetorical incontinence.

Here, then, are the greatest hits of Alberto Gonzales:

Gonzo But Not Forgotten: The Crimes of Alberto Gonzales

Mon Aug 27, 2007 at 09:23:36 AM PDT

The welcome resignation of Attorney General Alberto Gonzales may be long overdue, but it is hardly the end of the story of his wrong-doing at the Bush White House and the Department of Justice.  From illegal NSA domestic surveillance, condoning torture and the unprecedented expansion of presidential powers to undermining minority voting rights, the political purge of U.S. prosecutors and lying under oath to Congress, Gonzales' deception, misdeeds and blatant criminality extend well beyond Bush's beloved Fredo.

Ah, the price of youth

Tue Aug 14, 2007 at 07:27:23 AM PDT

Yesterday the WaPo ran a story about Will Heaton, who served as chief of staff for convicted Rep. Bob Ney (Crook-Ohio).

The article is about the government joining Heaton's attorney in asking for leniency in his sentencing, because of the lengths to which he cooperated with the FBI as they built the case against Ney. He even wore a wire, to record conversations with his boss. The recordings of those conversations went a long way toward Ney's "decision to admit his involvement in the corrupt relationship with Abramoff," according to a Justice Department memo.

So if you didn't read the story, do - it's interesting stuff.

But what was really interesting was this:

Bush's Youth Movement

Mon Jul 16, 2007 at 09:56:45 AM PDT

Kyle Sampson, Chief of Staff to the Attorney General of the United States. Age, 37.

Monica Goodling, Director of Public Affairs for the United States Justice Department. Age, 33.

Sara Taylor, Deputy Assistant to the President and Director of Political Affairs at the White House. Age, 32.

Why are all these senior positions filled by such young employees? Some would even call them kids. For two simple reasons -- kids are more impressionable and they don't know any better.

New Goodling document dump

Thu Jun 21, 2007 at 05:59:00 PM PDT

More DOJ and White House documents regarding the US Attorney firings have been made available, rather belatedly, as Monica Goodling's lawyer explains after the jump. (I'm putting this up to encourage discussion by those more informed than I am. I'll delete it if no one is interested, as my contribution is miniscule.)

NJ US Atty Christie: Bush pioneer got on and off 'the list'

Wed Jun 20, 2007 at 11:22:05 AM PDT

This may be a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing. In this case, the GOP money-grabbing hand didn't know what the MoniKyle listmaking hand was doing...Chris Christie, NJ USA, was a Bush Pioneer, who got put on the list pretty early, apparently for ignoring a "voter fraud" case handed to him by local Republicans in September, 2005, with a great deal of fanfare.
From the Atlantic Highlands Herald.

Republican Assembly candidates Jennifer Beck and Declan O’Scanlon called today for United States Attorney Chris Christie to look into voter fraud in Monmouth County ...an investigation by the Republican State Committee turned up rampant voter fraud, including voters who voted in two states, voters who voted in two separate counties in New Jersey, and votes being cast by people listed as deceased.

USAGate Muddiness De-Muddied

Fri Jun 15, 2007 at 12:10:39 PM PDT

There have been some interesting statements made within the Justice Department.  There have also been quite a few large numbers of people exiting lady Justice.  They have one direct course of action they hope to achieve and that is a one party, total control system in America essentially crapping on the US Constitution.

Pass The Republican Memory Loss Act of 2007

Thu Jun 14, 2007 at 10:12:29 AM PDT

People laugh, but I think we have a real epidemic here.  Whether from vitamin deficiency, a chromosomal imbalance, or too much time spent arguing that the estate tax affects small farms, Republicans are losing their memories left and right, and we simply have to do something about it.

I propose a landmark mental health initiative, offered in the Congress, called the "Republican Memory Loss Act of 2007," which would provide $50 million dollars of federal funding into research and development for the National Institute for Health, to determine just what happens when Republicans are forced to testify before Congress or a grand jury and suddenly lose all recollection of their work.
