A prominent Canadian medical professional reports to me, after he "leaped out of bed" to e-mail me: "This story made headlines tonight in Canada in all major Canadian news networks. Barack Obama has been caught lying. Spread this as much as you can because it is true and factually supported. I think the people of Ohio as well as the rest of America, deserve to know this."
Via CTA.ca News:
... Within the last month, a top staff member for Obama's campaign telephoned Michael Wilson, Canada's ambassador to the United States, and warned him that Obama would speak out against NAFTA, according to Canadian sources.
The staff member reassured Wilson that the criticisms would only be campaign rhetoric, and should not be taken at face value.
In Iowa, if I recall correctly, there was alot of rhetoric about Maytag plant shutdowns. But, according to the Illinois IAMAW alot of that talk was just rhetoric
Despite the perceived (by some) outrage over the Walmart tapes the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers of Illinois endorsed Hillary Clinton yesterday, citing inaction from Barack Obama on the Galesburg Maytag plant closing as one reason.
You know me -- on Thursdays, my favorite day of the week since I started helping out with EENRS, I try to put together an eclectic round-up of what's happening with the news out of the Edwards campaign. I've had a few of these with a theme, but mostly, the campaign is so positive and so filled with energy that we can go all over the map -- from Iowa to Nevada, from South Carolina to New Hampshire, from health care to education to a myriad of other issues. It's always great, always fun, always uplifting.
Tonight, I'm back to a theme but you may need a few tissues for this one because the personal stories that are coming from Edwards supporters around the country tell all the reason in the world why this man should be our next President of the United States. So, let's get to it.
Former U.S. Senator from North Carolina and perennial Presidential Candidate John Edwards needs to come clean to the folks in Iowa. It's just the right thing to do.
Is that what happened? Is NAFTA, as bad as it is, to blame in this instance? Or is it a case of corporate pillage and rape by greedy, profit driven investors backed by hedge funds? Let's look at the facts:
Welcome to your Saturday night Edwards Evening News edition, where we're working to save the planet! I am delighted about tonight's news, which includes:

American appliance icon Maytag's century-old operations in Newton, Iowa, are being shut down by its new owner and erstwhile competitor Whirlpool, and one major theme running through this New York Times story is that soon-to-be-ex-Maytag workers are desperate for affordable health insurance.
Nyceve's Murder by Spreadsheet is, of course, the biggest health insurance issue -- hundreds of thousands of dead and/or bankrupted people and all -- but one of the many other problems with our health insurance "system" is that when layoffs like Maytag's happen, losing employer-provided insurance is almost as bad as losing the income from a job.
The Times story profiles several Maytag types about their future plans, and most mention the importance of finding a job, almost any job, with health insurance.
