IL-Rep. Monique Davis apologizes for anti-atheist outburst
Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 07:43:07 PM PDT
Rob Sherman is an atheist activist. A few days ago, an Illinois State Representative unloaded on him and slurred people who didn't believe in her deity.

We have all made mistakes at some time in our lives. Some people never own up to them. Representative Davis did; she sent Mr. Sherman an apology.

Countdown with Keith Olbermann - 4/10/08
Thu Apr 10, 2008 at 06:43:08 PM PDT
After today, between GWB's "All is Well in Iraq!" mantra, listening to Doug Feith on the Diane Rehm show, and being exposed to "Team Torture"'s play book, I am convinced that NONE OF US will be "judged kindly by history." The constitutional and moral travesties committed by this administration will, of course, be well-documented. But, those in the future will look back on us, the American people, and wonder how we let them get away with it. We should be ashamed of ourselves. Sorry I'm such a downer tonight. OK...on with tonight's Countdown musings.
Countdown with Keith Olbermann-4/9/08
Wed Apr 09, 2008 at 07:01:06 PM PDT
Tonight has been all about appreciating and enjoying the "small" things in life. As I composed my Countdown musings, I was sitting on my bed munching on pizza from a local pizza place that I grew up with, downing my "elixor of life" (Diet Coke), and playing with whichever of my kitties decided to jump up and join me. After a craptacular day of panicky students and disorganized professors, I really needed this! Thank you all so much for your roll in what is quickly becoming the best part of my day!
Rep. Monique Davis, Anti-Atheist Bigot on Olbermann's WPITW

I searched and it didn't look like anyone had posted the video yet, so here it is, Keith Olbermann made Illinois state Rep. Monique Davis his worst person in the world last night!:
Atheism Discussion Overflow Thread (Updated w/ Poll)

Hey all --
It looks like csquared's diary about Monique Davis ( http://www.dailykos.com/... ) is reaching 1,000 comments (which means we won't be able to continue the discussion for much longer), and I don't think csquared is still logged in to create an overflow, so if anyone still wants to chat or debate on these issues, feel free to post here instead! :)
ACTION ITEM: Tell Illinois state rep to apologize for bigoted comments
Tue Apr 08, 2008 at 09:37:35 AM PDT
As most of you know, Illinois state rep Monique Davis (D-Chicago) made some highly bigoted comments to an atheist activist, calling his philosophy "dangerous" to children.
This cannot stand--especially coming from a Democrat. Even if you aren't from Illinois, I think we ought to pester her and the state house leadership. After all, if we can't keep our own in line ...
Here's Davis' contact info:
Springfield Office:
241-E Stratton Office Building
Springfield, IL 62706
(217) 782-0010
(217) 782-1795 FAX
District Office:
1234 West 95th Street
Chicago, IL 60643
(773) 445-9700
(773) 445-5755 FAX
I just fired off a fax to her capital office (thank you, eFax). Pester the state house Dem leadership as well--contact info after the jump.
Rep. Monique Davis (D) wants atheists out of America

Representative tries to put the fear of God in atheist
Sun Apr 06, 2008 at 06:56:48 PM PDT
This is an important read for anyone concerned with the seperation that should exist between Government and religion, this is reported in the April 6th Chicago Tribune and what I find most disturbubing is not that this incident happened but how under reported this sort of thing is. Now while this may be state and not federal government it's still important since it reflects how the wall between church and state is further eroding and how the "Main Stream Media" seldom cover this, Illinois afterall is a highly populace state one would think this might be noteworthy to many millions of Americans.
From the Tribune
This woman is a Democrat? Seriously?

Unbelievable. I'd expect this from the Pat Robertson crowd, not one of ours. According to this article, Illinois State Representative Monique Davis (D-Chicago) told an atheist that it's dangerous for children to even learn that atheism exists.
ETA: Here's another post detailing the exchange -- I think friendlyatheist has been a bit overwhelmed.
