Weapon Testing Gives Momentum to This War
Sun May 28, 2006 at 01:30:13 AM PDT
There was a film sequence on nightly news from Vietnam that filled me with disgust the night I first saw it in 1972. Everyone has seen it. Planes swoop low over a village. Napalm cannisters fall and explode. A handful of crying children run out of the village and one naked girl noticeably holds her arms away from her body as she runs.

A soldier tries to pour water from his canteen on her burning arms. The picture shows the indiscriminate use of a well-tested weapon on a civilian population. But at some point, napalm was used in an experimental sense. Pilots had to learn when to release the cannisters and at which altitude and speed for maximum effect. Napalm had a specific tactical use in WWII in fire bombing raids against Dresden and cities in Japan. http://en.wikipedia.org/...

Pine Bluff Alliance -- A Plan To Stop Lethal WP Use and Production
Fri Nov 11, 2005 at 09:57:08 PM PDT
Thank you to everyone who contributed to my diary two days ago gauging interest in a local protest action at the Pine Bluffs Redstone Arsenal, the only facility that currently produces and warehouses WP. Reception to the idea was
inspiring and I am committed to seeing this through.
More importantly, I now have the framework of a plan.
Please recommend this diary and give it the legs it needs to get the word out. The broad strokes are just below the fold.
WP and Napalm: Distinction without a Difference?
Thu Nov 10, 2005 at 09:33:12 PM PDT
Today Reuters reports the use of napalm-like weapons in Iraq-- and a denial from the Pentagon that it's ever used WP against civilians:
The US military has denied that it used white phosphorus against civilians. It confirmed, however, that US forces had dropped MK 77 firebombs, which a documentary on Italian state-run broadcaster RAI compared to napalm, against military targets in Iraq in March and April 2003
.
That denial is rather interesting, in view of this WP article from 2004.

"Caught in the Crossfire": The people of Fallujah speak
Thu Nov 10, 2005 at 07:18:17 AM PDT
"Shot from November 2004 to April 2005 inside the city of Falluja, 'Caught in the Crossfire' details the conditions experienced by civilians as they endured the violent clashes and consequences of Operation Phantom Fury and became refugees outside the eyes and care of the international community. A joint production between American and Iraqi filmmakers, 'Caught in the Crossfire' was filmed entirely un-embedded, outside the protection or influence of the military or corporate media, in order to capture the unique and honest perspective of the civilians themselves. "

Rather than leave this entry as a comment on Hunter's diary, I'm using my one-diary-entry per day to bring 'Caught in the Crossfire' to the attention of the dKos community with the suggestion that you purchase this video and hold some "educational viewing" evenings with friends and family.

It's Shake and Bake, and I Helped
Wed Nov 09, 2005 at 10:26:21 PM PDT
Lacking the crystalline sense of Hunter, I offer this summary of this, our saddest misadventure to date.
This post is about the dogs of war. I was going to post a photo here, but I find I can't. Instead I will provide a description of the effects of white phosphorus munitions. This from those friendly, family owned and operated folks at GlobalSecurity.org
THERE IS NO NEWS HERE.
Wed Nov 09, 2005 at 04:45:47 PM PDT
Certain facts that have been obvious for several years:
-On the direction of the President and Congress, the US military is waging a war in Iraq.
-The war is unjustified, illegal and immoral.
-The US military has misinformed tbe public about the use of weapons and tactics in this war.
-The US military does not intentionally target civilians.
-Civilians are victims of this war.
-Incendiary weapons including white phosphorus and napalm have been used in this war and reported in the media.
-Civilians have been the victims of these incendiary weapons.
-A documentary on Italian TV has recently described the incendiary weapons as "chemical weapons".
-All hell breaks loose on Dailykos.
So... what exactly is the startling news that has everyone at each other's throats?
I will restate again what should be obvious to everyone who has been paying attention since this war began:
THERE IS NO NEWS HERE.
TAKE ACTION: WP accountability
Tue Nov 08, 2005 at 06:57:49 AM PDT
We've read numerous diaries on the use of white phosphorous in Fallujah. It's time to take action.
If we only read and cry about it, if we only talk amongst ourselves about it, we are complicit in the eyes of the world, permitting this to go unquestioned.
I don't know about you, but my soul cannot bear complicity in something this evil. Join me now in taking action if you feel the same way. Next steps after the jump.

So the US military used napalm in Falluja? Big F#cking Deal.
Tue Nov 08, 2005 at 06:17:54 AM PDT
A war crime was it? Well really. I'm shocked.
Does anyone in their right mind have any doubt that the bombing, invasion and conquest of Iraq was anything other than a long series of war crimes, beginning before the official war and continuing throughout the occupation?
Italian Broadcast video online (Fallujah documentary)

I have uploaded both a Macromedia Flash 8 video presentation and backed up the WMV file at
this website (click here for video)
for those who are interested in viewing this video documentary produced by Italian satellite TV, RAI News 24.
Jeff Englehardt, one of the former US soldiers who speaks out has some very interesting revelations on the attack on Fallujah that he took part in.
More on the Use of Napalm in Iraq - the story that won't die
Mon Nov 07, 2005 at 04:55:26 PM PDT

That the US has used white phosphorus to firebomb civilian targets with MK77 ordinance in assaults on Fallujah has been well known and leaking out around the edges of the US corporate media for more than a year.
It also has been admitted to, indirectly, by the Pentagon.
In June of 2005, the Independent/UK ran an article titled "US lied to Britain over use of napalm in Iraq war." Excerpt follows:
Italian Satellite TV to Broadcast Evidence of US Use of Chemical Weapons on Civilians
Mon Nov 07, 2005 at 08:08:19 AM PDT
Italian media going full-bore on the Bush Administration. After its revelations on the subterfuge behind the Nigergate forgeries, documentary evidence of the use by US troops of phosphorus and a new formulaton of napalm [MK77] on the Sunni civilian population will be broadcast tomorrow on international satellite TV. Global coverage of the atrocity, folks.

I just watched a terrific program called "Two Days In October" this evening on PBS. It is a segment of the series "The American Experience." Following is a
