I live in Nevada where the foreclosure rate is 3.5 time the national average. According to NPR 1 in 43 households in Nevada received a filing during Q2 2008.  The neighborhood I live in has newer homes that were built during the housing boom.  People who own here paid more than $250,000 for these small three bedroom tract houses less than five years ago.  Today they are worth less than $150,000.  

When I drive down the streets it looks like more than half the homes in this development are for sale or rent, and no one is buying.  These house are renting for between $800 and $900/mo.  When you consider that the mortgage payment on a $250,000 is over $1600 before taxes and fees, that means people are losing a lot of money.

In all this some victims are being forgotten.  Last year we took responsibiliy to for two domesticated stray cats.  Both are friendly and neutered.  One we keep inside in a guest room and the other lives in our backyard.  We call the one outside "white cat."

A few weeks ago in another diarists creation I sort of hinted that I had tons of flower and cat photographs, and I might be stupid enough to do a diary on them.  Well with about 8000 photographs scattered through two computers and several disjointed external hard drives, I knew that doing a seriously complicated diary on the subject would take hours and hours.

So I cheated.  I went for one photo session taken in the past, with a subtle little hint of the future.

I admit, I haven't written a diary in like 3 months because I am just so exhausted by this very long and stressful election season.

Eckhart Tolle in his book The Power of Now said he had lived with several Zen masters, all of them cats. Certainly my departed Chandra was one, but I have more pics of my current pooties, so I will let them show us a bit about being in the moment and managing stress. A lot of the content here was in my previous diaries, but I'm hoping repackaging with pooties will get the information to more people.

Breath work is hard to see in a photo, but can be done in conjunction with yoga, so I'll show Sara in a kitty yoga pose for this.

The old joke about organizing Democrats being like herding cats is usually meant as a put-down, even if it's in an affectionate way.  Democrats are good at critical thinking.  Unfortunately, that often turns in to being critical of each other.  In contrast, the Republicans seem to gain strength from their ability to stay on message and silence dissenting voices.

I don't have any problem with borrowing from the enemy play book to further our own political ends, and I've seen plenty of people, both here at dKos and in my daily interactions, who tout the Republican penchant for towing the party line as one of their strengths.  

The trouble is, right now might not be the best time to be emulating that particular Republican tactic.  I think now is the time that acting like so many unmanageable, independent, bad-tempered cats will be our greatest asset.

I'm really confused about how the whole "mojo" thing works here at DKos.  After a few years of commenting and diarying, you'd think TU status would be a given, but I've lost mine inexplicably.  Every day I comment.  Often I get a few 4s, and sometimes I get dozens.  Once in a while, I post a diary.  Just yesterday a single comment got 40-some-odd recommends.  Why am I not a trusted user?

Has anyone else had this happen?

This comes from a brainstorming session between Mindoca and myself about the different skill sets people have and how the netroots effort can bring these skillsets together.

See, I put in my name as a volunteer when I registered for Netroots.  It was early on and somehow I did not get any duties.

Mindoca wrote a diary saying she needed volunteers for her workshop.  Now, I am helping Mindoca with her two workshops.  And I would love to do some of the same things for you.
